Well all turtles dont stay small forever infact few stay small forever and you should becareful before you get one to insure a large enough tank and all the things that it needs also the health of it from where ever you get it but you should reasearch it alot before you rely on a pet shop to tell you every thing.

if you need help, then you should not be getting a turtle. Obviously, you have not read up on turtles. I have 2 red eared slidders and they are a LOT of work! They need a huge tank to live in and it needs to be cleaned often, like 2 times a week, and that is with a filter running in it!! They need special basking lights, different types of food. It is not like in the days I was a kid when you bought a turtle for a quarter and put it in that cute little plastic tank that looked like an island. They lived for what, a couple of weeks? You need to do searches on the internet and learn all you can on the care and then decide if you want one. My turtles were cute little quarter size when I bought them a little over a year ago, now they hang over my hand!! This past summer they lived in a 100 gal pond outside and it really helped their growth!!! I sure wish I could leave them out all winter, but it is too cold. They sure did thrive in the pond.
Ask yourself first if you can afford the expense to give them everything they will need to thrive. It is expensive buying the live food they eat, filters, lighting, large large tank, etc...

Please do some research as this is not a good source of information mostley opinion. Most turtles are water based and require UVB and UVA lighting to grow and survive, all small "cute" turtles produce small cute poop that needs to be cleaned once a week if not more without a filter. Also all small cute turtles grow into large space requireing turtles. ALL OF THEM. The land turtles (which are really a different species) get medium sized and require a large area to graze as well as a pen in doors unless you plan to naturally hibernate them (which can be lethal if you are unsure of what you are doing)
If you think small cute, please do the poor turtle a favor and don't get it. They will not stay that way.

None... because they grow up to be large, ugly, stank things that nobody wants anymore (if they were ever fed well and their cage cleaned in the first place). Plus they harbor disease.
