Alright I'm not scared of mice, just mice that aren't in a cage! Allow me to explain. I moved into my apartment a couple months ago. There was no problem at that time. But we later learned that the pervious tenants were very angry about being kicked out, so they released their fancy mice in the house. The mice started breeding. have caught 6 of the little buggers. But I'm starting to get scared of them. They were running across my feet, (kid you not), one of them jumped up at me. All of this always happens first thing in the morning, they are the craziest mice I've ever seen. And they are on to me catching them (lol). Conspiring against me, only coming out at night, ignoring mouse traps, making little scuttling noises across my bedroom floor while I'm sleeping (hardwood floors) I'm not sure what to do. Help advice please! Also I can't stand the sight of them dead I get filled with guilt. I know stupid. My guys in Iraq so I can't have him come over & take care of it for me! HELP!

I can definitely understand how these mice would make you nervous! Please keep in mind, though, that they are domesticated mice, not wild animals. They were bred to be pets and won't hurt you.

I've had great success with this live trap in my house:

It’s also available for $2 cheaper here (although I prefer to buy it from the other place since I’m not a big fan of PETA):

I've caught over a dozen mice with it so far and it can be used over and over indefinitely. Or, you can try making the free homemade humane trap described here:

http://www.helpinganimals.com/wildlife_livingWithMice.asp

If you do live trap the mice, please be sure to check the traps several times a day, as it is much more cruel to allow a mouse in a live trap to slowly starve and dehydrate to death than to kill it quickly with a snap trap. You can temporarily keep the mice in a plastic bin or tub with wire screening securely fastened over the top. (If it is tall enough, you may not need the wire screening.) Put some shredded paper towels or tissue paper in it. Make sure to give them water and some food (bird seed, cereal, or dry oatmeal will do). Do not release them outside. They will not be able to survive. If you take them to a pet store, they have a good chance of becoming snake food. Please take them to a small animal rescue or the humane society instead. You can find rescue groups and shelters in your area at http://www.petfinder.com

Just so you know, the absolute cruelest traps are glue traps. Hope you're not using those! Mice have been known to gnaw off their own limbs and tear off their skin in an effort to escape, as they starve or dehydrate to death or suffocate in the glue. It can take three to five days for them to die. Poison isn't any better, as the mice die slowly and painfully from internal bleeding. It can take up to a week for them to die, and then they smell as they rot behind your walls.

It doesn't take much extra effort to be kind. You will feel better and so will the mice! Good luck!

Please purchase a HAV A HART trap. This will not harm the mice. Place peanut butter deep inside. Peanut butter is the key because it smells VERY VERY GOOD to them. Then put them in a 10 gallon glass aqauarium with a screen lid (they will chew out of anything else) and water (imean do you really want to be cruel, they aren't used to living like that either) keep them in there until they are all caught and take them to a local petstore. if you release them outside they will continue to reproduce because they will just run back inside again.

Or call an exterminator. Thats so much more humane than a cat. Plus if there is any mouse bait at all in the mice and the cat eats one it is fatal.

Get yourself a good CAT. The mice will not like being in your home with a cat there. Tell your honey that when he returns, he'll be greeted by a big kitty!

You can purchase humane traps, which will not hurt them and you can release them somewhere else, preferably by a water source. Good Luck.

You could always get a pet cat, or a snake.... or some other exotic pet that likes snacking on rodents.
