What wins a Dog show? This is my only experience...

Once I went to a dog show with my Aunt, who is a chihuahua breeder. She had brought along a dog I liked because I liked her, and entered her because I said "she's the best puppy ever! She'll win!" (This by the way, is the only chihuahua I've ever loved, and occurred about 22 years ago.)

The first run she was very surprised that "Angel" beat out "Chico", her CDX (I guess that some big championship thing). Chico was her best, and he was going for another championship... only to be beat out by 2 rank amatures. We took it up to best in breed, and won that too. After we took best in toy group, my Aunt insisted on taking over for the "Best in Show" run. They lost.

The judge *did* know my Aunt, but didn't realize Angel was hers. He pulled her aside after the show, and told her the reason he'd placed us above everyone else was the obvious love between us... it was obvious that *I* didn't know what I was doing, but Angel did

Recently my year and half old Labrador Retriever has been having a hard time with environmental allergies. I hate having him even on Benedryl but his reaction this time was so bad he got a staph infection. My vet tested him for everything and put him on steroids, but I hate the idea and side effects. Has anyone had experiences with the use of steroids on a dog ? Can anyone reccomend an alternative? Besides Benedryl ( does not work)

I just got a new tank, i set it up and got it all filled with water, i put some plant bulbs in it, and now it has been sitting for one day, i am going to put fish in it tomorrow just so that bacteria start growing, the problem is that im at college and i have a four week break coming up, it is unreasonable for me to take the whole tank back with me, so i am going to give the fish to a friend who will take care of it, (he is taking his tank home). will not a having any fish in the tank kill off all the bacteria, and also should i take the plants out before i leave?

We got a beagle mix from the shelter several months ago. she is really wearing on us because even though she is soooo sweet, she has speration anxiety very bad, She is a mess when we leave, if you watch her from the door she is crying and running in circles, but the biggest thing is she goes to the bathroom all over the place when we leave. Never when we are home, she knows to go out side. I've tried crate training, doggy pads and even anxiety medicie but she spits them back out. Anyone have any suggestions about the bathroom problems.

My Iguana (Drako) just passed away 2 days ago. I had always wanted an Iguana and a Rosy Boa. My husband told me one or the other. I now have the option to get my Boa, but I am not sure I am ready or that I really want another animal.

My new puppy, Luna keeps on chewing on our computer wires and everything else in site. How can I get her to stop chewing on our wires? I don't want her to get hurt by chewing on our computer wires and I feel terrible yelling at her for it. She chews on her stuffed monkey and kitty for only a few seconds then goes back to chewing on wires.

Hello Everyone.
My husband and I are thinking about getting a new dog. We want to insure we get the right dog for our life style. We live live in town and have a 50x50 ft back yard. Wwe both work Mon-Fri with time to spare for the pup after work and on the weekends.

We were looking at a beagle/basset hound mix. But was warned that they howl a lot and are hard to potty train. I am fine with training the dog that is part of having a puppy but the howling bit all of the time is no good.

Any information that can be provided would be wonderful. I just want to insure that we pick the right breed of dog for us. I feel too many people rush into getting a dog which inturn can become an ugly situtation for the owner and dog.

Thanks.....

Will he ever lift his leg???

I don't actually care, I am just wondering. He is what I call a purebred dumb dawg (shep/lab/husky/terrier cross) about 55 lbs (don't know if this matters) and has already been neutered.

I adopted 2 mixed breed puppies about 3 months ago (they are now 6 mo.), a female and her brother, who is now with my sister. I strongly believe that they are pit bull/beagle mixes because of their size (small), coloring, and general body stature (I googled for images, and they are dead on). The female (Sophie, black and white) more closely resembles a pit, while her brother (Simon, black/brown/white) looks more like a beagle and sounds like one to boot. So far both puppies are very sweet with people and other dogs and have shown no aggression except with each other (sibling rivalry perhaps). I just can't help being a little concerned about the possible pit bull background. Does anyone else have a pit/beagle or just pit mix who could maybe relieve my concerns. I have Sophie in obedience training and she is doing very well. Is there anything I need to watch for in her behavior? Any advice you could offer would be great. Thanks!

My dog is 4 years old. She was fixed when she was a puppy. Lately she tries to hump me 2 to 3 times a day. Why is she doing this? I thought her being neutered (sp?) this shouldn't be happening.
What should I do when she tries to do this to me?
thanks for any help anone can give me.

Is it possible to walk by your cat and not pet her/him? I catch myself petting everytime I walk past mine.

Hi guys, we are ordering my Chihuahua a Buddy Belt harness for Christmas. I have heard from many people that they are great for small dogs. My Chihuahua has had problems with walking with collars, the make him cough and hack on our walks. The Buddy Belt puts the pressure on the chest, not the neck of the dog. I have also read that it is vet recommended. But, I was wondering, do any of you use the Buddy Belt on your dog??? I thought I would get some opinions...Thanks!
