Sure they do, just like people, their babies take nutrients from mama...therefore, mama needs to eat more. If you break up a cat's gestation into thirds (just like humans, called trimesters) You'll find that cats "gorge" more during the second trimester...just like a woman who is 5 months pregnant will eat twice her weight in steak and ice cream. During that last period, it may seem like she's eating less, but it's only less per serving, with twice as many servings. The reason for this is, there's just not enough room in there for babies PLUS all that food, even though the need for food is just as great. That's why a human who is 9 months pregnant will snack every ten minutes, but can't eat even a third of what's on their plate. It's very important that mama cat gets proper nutrition, including lots of protien and carbs for energy.

Think of it this way...A woman will tell you she's "eating for two"...Mama cat is "eating for seven".

Mine usually ate a little more than usual but not massive quantities.

Yes they do eat allot because they have to feed kittens too.
