Are dogs that are neutered lazy and /or may gain weight? I'm wondering because I'm getting my dog neutered soon and if this is true I'm not looking forward to what he'll become. We play together all the time, he's 2yr old Golden full of life and energy. I love him this way, but my brother told me it's only because he's full of testoserone from not being fixed. I know he needs to be fixed because I read about Goldens major health problems and one of them is prostate cancer (if not neutered) Please tell me my dog won't become a shell of his former self after the surgery:( He's like a child to me.

We recently took in a stray puppy and gave it to a good family, while the dog was with us she was coughing and got sick twice, her new owner took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with pneumonia. I have had pneumonia 4 times in the past and I also have a 2 year old who was in contact with the puppy. Could this be passed on to Humans? Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

How worried should I be? My 6 month old Siberian kitten was diagnosed 6-7 weeks ago with a Type I murmur. The vet had hoped it would disappear as he matured. But, at pre-alteration checkup today, he was labeled with Type II sternal murmur. The vet suggested I get an ultrasound (doing this Friday) to know what (if anything) we exactly are dealing with before I have him altered. This past summer, I lost my elderly cat to congestive heart failure after a 3+ year battle; the problem started as a simple heart murmur. I'm scared I'm going to have to go through this all again. Any thoughts?

I have two parakeets, and one of them is the friendliest one in the world, you give him coconut pieces, and he'll take them from you, he'll let you pet him and everything. The other one is afraid of his shadow. You just move your hand in his general direction and he'll go crazy. Is there anything I can do to make the scardey cat one behave more like his friend?

This is a response to a previous post apologizing to the Animal Kingdom for being human. Someone responded saying why don't we care about people first, as they are more important than animals. Why can they not be equal? I do know the arguments, but really, I guess I personally just don't understand. We are to take care of the animals, not use them at our descretion for any fool thing we want. If we need them for food, then okay. But when we don't need them as food, or use them in sport etc thats where it gets rediculous.

Secondly, speaking for myself (and maybe others), I will always choose to support animal charities over most human charities and causes. I do care a great deal for animals and have always gotten along better with them. BUT also because humans have their own voices, and most people DO support human causes. So I feel that it is only right to support those who have very little support and cannot speak for themselves.

okay, I have a 7 month old mini dachshund. and hes a great royal pain, but my husband and I wish to get bigger dogs. But I am afraid with how my Mini dachshund is, he growls and shows fangs to people and other dogs and is a complete pansy I must say to anything else, he knows I am alpha over him but when I correct him he goes running to my husband whimpering up a storm and my husband being so great that he is, babies him and scolds me for correcting him so harshly infront of him, is this why my dog is the way he is? and is it bad for me to get another dog with having this monster of a rat in my household? * I love my dog just call him names when he ticks me off :)*

ive got an artificial christmas tree in my living room. I also have two cats. they both LOVE the christmas tree, enough to bend the bottom four sets of branches down to the floor. one cat is the instigator. she will go real close to the tree and swat at it just enough to get my other cat, who is about three to five times the weight she is, over to the tree. he does the damage. we constantly have to spray them with a water bottle to get them to go away, but it doesn't work. we've also tried that spray that is supposed to make them not want to do it, scratch off or whatever. it doesnt work, not even on the couch. any and all suggestions would be helpful.

I own two 3 month old blue boy pit bulls (brothers from the same litter), and I'm somewhat confused with their behavior. One of the things that I'm trying to do with my pups is not have them sociolize with other people/animals (except when I have 2 take them to a pet store or the vet). I have tried taking them out for walks, but they don't seem to like the idea; they act like they're afraid/uncomfortable and they always try to walk back home. If they hear a dog bark, they will also back off. There's people that tell me that they're afraid or are not brave enough because of their behavior. The thing is that I don't really want my puppies to sociolize because I use to own a pit puppy about 2 months ago, and it got stolen from my porch because he would walk with anyone 'n was friendly with people (because of the early sociolization i put him through) and he was barely 3.5 months old. In other words,I'd like to know if my puppies will become a little more aggresive as they grow older

Okay, two years ago, I sneaked a desert tortoise from Mexico—His name is TACO and his doing great. BUT, I live in California so, its illegal to have a desert tortoise as a pet. I heard that you can get a license to own a desert tortoise. How do I do that? And should I tell them that I already have a tortoise? Would they take him away? Please, I need help I really feel like I should do more then feeding it and giving him a warm shelter and looking after him. I want to take him to a vet. So, they can check him out...but I’m scared that they might take him away from me...

Heres a link of a pic of him.

Ok I haven't seen this question before so I am asking. I have a cat who is really nervous, she recently started plucking her hair on her back in one spot. There is not a rash, fleas are not present, I have used antibacterial cream to keep it clean. Unfortunately this does not keep her from plucking her hair out, she avoids licking the cream and plucks an area beside where the cream is located. I tried tape bandaging, that only lasted a matter of seconds. Any suggestions?

My mother in law insists that if a purebred dog of one breed gets bred to another purebred dog of a different breed that the female is then "never the same" and the future puppies out of that female(even if both breeds are the same) cannot be registered because of that one "whoops" with a dog of another breed. I think this is totally stupid, and have told her this is not true. Please tell me your opinions. I belive this is a TOTAL old wives tale and genetically and scientifically cannot be factual. Her AKC Miniature Pinscher got pregnant by my AKC Toy Poodle, now she thinks her MinPin can NEVER be bred again, because she will have "poodle blood" in her, and says "it screws with the female's chemistry to be bred to another breed of dog". Her female is only registered, no titles or anything, she shouldnt be unfixed to begin with. My poodle is on his last leg of a CH. Someone please tell me this is BS so I can rub it in her face?

I am sorry to the Animal Kingdom. The older I get the more I cannot bear the cruelty that abounds. Caged wild things, experiments, family pets beaten and abused. What are you all like? Every time a movie about animals comes out, everyone laughs and loves the little things depicted(currently penguins) while ignoring the plight of real ones everywhere. Anyone else care? This won't get a lot of answers, only the dumb questions do!
