all the pure-breads will be expensive and if that's what she has her heart on, then she won't be happy without a Yorkie or similar. I find Yorkies so loveable and sweet. My neighbor had one when I was growing up and you'd ask for a hug, and she'd cuddle under your chin. Lap dog and all. cute too.

If you're thinking of getting her a puppy for Christmas, please make sure she's up for caring for the dog and it's expenses. The pup will need lots of attention and cleaning up afterwards at first...so if she has the time for the dog, go for it.

If you have any doubts, please think of a kitten or cat. They're easy to take care of and you can leave them overnight or even for a weekend without getting a sitter. They're a real lot of fun to watch play, especially if you get two, and you won't have to worry about your new leather shoes being torn up and your rug peed on. They sleep a lot, but can be friendly like lap dogs too.

If money is a concern: Head to a shelter or in the newspaper.

Well...wish you the best there!

Happy Holidays

As for buying a dog, you can get a Yorkie from a shelter, shelters are tons cheaper and your saving a dogs life. I do suggest you do a search on petfinder.com, you'll definately find a small dog up for adoption around you, and maybe even a Yorkie!

Go to http://www.petfinder.com and select "yorkshire terrier" for the breed, and type in your city or zip code, and it will bring up all of the yorkies and yorkie mixes at shelters and rescues in your area. These dogs tend to be healthier and have better temperments than dogs you would get at the pet store, plus you are saving a life. There will be an adoption fee, but it is usually less than the spay/neuter and first shots would cost you on your own anyway so the pups are really less than free if you take that into account. If you can't find a yorkie you like, look at some other small breeds using dog size as a filter instead of breed.

First of all you should not mate your dog because you want puppies. Yorkie-poo's are a cross breed and can only be shown in special registry shows for the crossbreed types. This is a great miscarriage to the pure bred dog who has for generations, been kept as a pure bred dog and maintained to a high standard of the breed by specialized breeders to keep it such. Just because the dog is certified doesn't make her a show dog. The qualifications to show a dog are different for each breed, but the basics are all the same. Good body posture, teeth that are scissor bite, a good temperment, great gait and personality. There should be a hip dysplasia test and joint test for floating Patella ( knee broblems and elbow ) also hereditary problems like juvinile cataract, diabetes, constricted trachea. To breed a dog without knowing these thing would be a dis-service to the breed and make that breed look bad. My best avdive is to NOT breed the little girl. As with many small breeds there comes a lot of birthing problems and the expense can be gigantic. Well into the thousands of dollars for doctor cost for surgical removal of the puppies, not to mention the cost of the puppies too, There is worming, shots, feeding cost after the pups are taken from the mother at 8 weeks. And all the cleaning too.

To tell you the truth smaller dogs are expensive and the smaller the dog the more expensive. You can however go on pet finder.com for a little less expensive dog or go to you local animal shelter and get one there. You can save alot of money and save a dogs life. P.S dont think that animal shelters only have old dog, or abused ones they have some that are niether of these characteristics

Pure bred dogs can be very expensive. Best bet is to go to the pound. There will probably be a small fee for the adoption that usually includes a set of shots and spaying/neutering of the pet. Find one there that looks like a small terrier dog. Plus you will be saving a dog's life!

Good luck!

I'm not sure about the prices, but there are a lot of sites which has descriptions of the dog breeds - even their sizes. Even here in yahoo, there's a part for pets! Also research about the personality of the breed of dog.

Perhaps a long hair mini chihuahua? Or perhaps one that doesn't have its papers.

You can usually tell how big the dog will get by the size they are when they are weened. Like my dog was around 2 1/2 lbs when I got her and she ended up being 7.5 lbs full grown.

All I have to say is do NOT get the cheapest dog you can find...find a good breeder or go to an animal shelter. Alot of the time backyard breeders and puppymills are going to lead to heartbreak and loads of vet bills. All pups are going to cost a good deal of money.....remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR
