All opinions and facts appreciated. I can't decide if I should be noble and get a mutt or should I get a pure breed that is more likely to be healthy. Help me decide which is the smarter, realistic and "better" choice. Thanks in advance.

I know owls may prey on small mammals, like kittens, but are they capable of grabbing older cats? What weight of animals can they pick up and carry?

I live in a heavily wooded area and cats are disappearing. My roommate swears he heard an owl the other night.

Hi, I ahve a 18 week old Daschound that i cannot seem to house break!! I take him outside every hour and he will pee and poop, but when I bring him in the house, sometimes he poops again on the carpeting. I adopted him at 16 weeks from a breeder who allowed the dogs to just go to the bathroom in the house, they were never taken out to try to be housebroken. I am at my wits end with this dog!! I am hoping some one out there can gie me an idea on what to do! I really love my dog. Please help! TIA! Dawn

It has been 62 days since she last mated, and she has been 'moping' around lately. She has been trying to nest in all the furniture, but has finally picked a spot on top of some blankets. Her nipples are swollen, but she doesn't look pregnant otherwise. BUT, this morning, her stomach was gurling and making all of these strange noises. Could this be a false pregnancy? Do dogs usually have noise coming from their stomachs during the 62 day or so?

I recently acquired 2 eastern box turtles from a family who was neglecting them and was not giving them proper care or nutrition. They were severely underweight, with long beaks and nails, and were being fed dry cat food. They had a heat lamp, but no UV bulb. They also had no opportunity to burrow, and a very small water dish. I've since filed their beaks down, gotten them on a diet of soft turtle food, the occasional nightcrawler or recently deceased fish or pinkie mouse, fresh fruits and vegetables, and box turtle pellets, and have moved them into a bigger home with a dirt and reptibark mixture as a substrate. They also have a UV bulb now. What is the proper temperature to keep them at? Also, they like to fornicate a lot - how would i go about making the environment suitable for mating?

I heard that they were a species in danger of becoming extinct. I also read in a book about turtles that it was illegal to keep them in captivity. Is this true? Where? More info please?

My favorite kitty and some of the kittens looked at me like they still liked and knew me but wouldn't let me approach them (flee) and looked at me as if I were a predator. My favorite kitty is so trusting she follows me and that day I was angry and vengeful (deep down feeling in my heart (not rage or regular anger, but a special kind of bitterness) and I wasn't even showing my deep anger on the outside (like smiling and having fun, being myself) and a whole lot of people were looking at me that day too. I was dressed, groomed and acted like I do normally. When later I took about 2/3 of that DEEP anger out when my friend punched me and then asked for my forgiveness (I am forgiving) my cat/kittens were only a bit scared of me and let me pet them.

Can cats sense evil or danger (not with 5 senses, but how do they know)?

I get angry, real angry (rage) but this was an evil and deep vengeful kind of anger this time

I recently picked up a modest tank, and five feeder goldfish to stock it.. then found out about their space requirements, a total shock. I'm planning on buying a 20-gallon tank to complement the 10-gallon one, but in the interim, my question is:

I have a 40-gallon rated air pump, a hob power filter, a few fake plants and hiding rocks, gravel, and do 10% water changes twice a day (once off the top, once off the gravel with a vac tube). I'm careful to feed them twice a day and remove excess after a few minutes.

What are some things I can do to make their stay more comfortable, or speed up the cycling process of the tank? I don't want to put any of them down, and giving them back to PetCo would certainly result in their quick deaths.

I have two cats, Jabba-male and Tippy-female, both are fixed. Well for the last couple of weeks when my husband and I go up to bed, TIppy will follow or already be up there (thats not the change) Well Jabba will set down stairs and start yowling and meowing and just going on about something. We will yell for him to come up stairs, in case he 'lost' us. Sometimes he comes others he doesn't, but he will just set downstairs and cry for hours, eventually Tippy will go down to see whats wrong, sometimes he stops and others he doesnt. He has plenty of food and water, there are tons of toys. They aren't allowed outside and haven't been outside in years, so thats not the problem. He did it all night last night and now today he is following me around and meowing like he wants something, but I have no idea what he wants. He doesn't set still for hugs and cuddles, he just wants me to follow him around, but he doesn't go anywhere in particular. Whats up with my cat? Can you shed light on it?

I have a less than fortunate situation of staying with my mother in law until our new house is ready. We have 2 dogs(which she hates) and she does not allow them to come in the house, does not permit bathing them(claims that they are dirty beasts so no point bathing them),does not allow premium dog food, only leftover scarps allowed(does not want to waste money on dirty beasts),does not tolerate anyone cuddling them. She even said that if she has a choice, she will cook them up for dinner!! Is she crazy?? What should i do to make her like them more?

I have a tank that's 8 weeks old. Everything was fine until about 2 weeks ago when the fishes started dying. I had 2 males 2 females. THey all died one by one. The first 3, I have no clue what happened. They seem to die after I did a water change even though I added de-chlorinizer. The last one to die had open soars on the side and some white film seem to cover her body. I used some medication and she seemed to be bouncing back however, I did a 20% water change last night and she was dead this morning. I've done water changes before and nothing happened until about 2 weeks ago. In the tank, I also have an algea eater. He seems ok for now. Seperated by a net, I have 15 baby guppies. All of them seem ok. Other than one fish, I don't know what killed them and I don't know what to do with the babies. I was in the process of setting up a new tank to seperate the females from the males. Should I transfer them or leave them in there ?

they sleep in the laundry room at night (5 months old), and I leave the door permanently open, if like today its dead windy i didn't and came out of the room only to find that they couldn't get out so they obviously peed on the floor, not their fault! they have instant access to outside all the time, am i making a big mistake, in so much that they are not used to pee time as such? and any training methods on them telling me they want to go out?

My situation is a bit different from other similar questions, because these two kittens went missing together. They never roamed, just played in the garden and came back when it got dark. Both happy, healthy and both so cute! Last Sunday, they both ran in for their dinner, then went off again ... and neither came back!
I have searched everywhere in this area, many times and especially at feeding times. I have put up posters and phoned vets and the roadkill disposal companies.
I find it really odd that two kittens would disappear like this at the same time.
Neither had a collar yet, in fact I tried out a new collar on the bigger kitten that very day, but the collar was was still too big.
Both are females, but neither had shown signs of being in heat and I was going to have them spayed in November. . (Both are probably 4 months old now).
They are no longer in my area - am so worried.
What could have happened to them? Any advice or ideas based on experience please?
Very upset.
