The insatiable appetite and drinking a lot of water can be signs of hyperthyroidism (treatable with medication), diabetes (treatable with diet change and insulin). Have you looked at your kitty's teeth and gums? He could have a bad tooth or need a dental cleaning.
So he MUST see a vet and you may be in for some expense if these conditions are to be corrected. The vet will do a blood panel to check for abnormal thyroid excretion and a urinalysis will tell if he has too much sugar in his system.
All cats over ten years of age should have an annual exam to check if their organs are functioning properly, their teeth are in good shape and generally if there are any suspicious lumps on his body.

You might want to take the cat to the vet. I just had to put 2 cats down this year due to old age and a thyroid problem. Both cats started doing the drooling and constant drinking of water, shortly before we put them down. Sorry for the bad news but your cat might be very ill.

Awww my cat fefe is doing the same thing, but the only differ is that she meooows so much before she eats and after she eat, she even pulls her hair off of her. My god mom cat have done the same thing and when she took her to the vet they said they she was dehydrating and that her ribs were giving out on her they also said that this happens to cats when they are about to pass. Sometimes fefe tend to drag her self but after the holidays i have to take her to the vet so they can put her to sleep

My cat went through the exact same thing. we took him to the vet and it turned out he's diabetic.
other things to look out for is if your cat's been sleeping more than usual, and peeing a lot more too.
you should take him to the vet. you'll probably have to give him insulin shots, or, if you're lucky, you'll just have to control his diet and give him hypoglycemic tablets.
i started giving my cat his insulin shots, and now he's doing well. good luck for sam!

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Read here https://tr.im/W89qR
Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.

Get the cat to the vet for a check up. Could be a urinary infection as cats are prone to them.

that "drooling" is a bit of vomit, and hes foaming at the mouth that is a seriouse sign of something wrong with your cat, the water drinking and being hungrey not really, but if hes foaming at the mouth take it to a vet IMMEDIATLY.
