First off, people lay off. Maybe the person is just asking the question just to lay their mind at ease, it doesn't mean that they are actually going to do it.
Secondly, Dawnmarie, pop rocks and coke will not kill you. That is a myth. It has been proven manytimes (including myself). If you'd like futrher proof, the guys from Mythbuster proved this as well.
Back to the questions, alka seltzer will cause a pigeon to explode. Like it was stated above, pigeons do not have the ability to release pressure or gas in their system, os it causes them to explode.

No -- and yes, birds CAN burp!!
"There are theories about exploding birds. Most of them are urban legends. Some people believe feeding birds with dry grains, such as rice, barley or wheat, the seeds would expand in volume in birds' stomachs and cause them to explode (some people throw birdseed at weddings instead due to concern about the fate of birds eating rice). This is not true. Many species eat such grains frequently; the bobolink, for example, lives primarily off rice. To make dried seeds expand in volume, the seeds need to absorb water. Since the density of water remains more or less the same, eating small amounts of seeds would not make a wild sparrow into a stuffed turkey. Some people believe feeding birds with Alka-Seltzer or similar products may cause the birds to explode. This is not true. Even if Alka-Seltzer releases a good amount of carbon dioxide when dissolved in water, the bird could still burp. A related common urban legend is that feeding a bird a paracetamol tablet will cause an explosion. While doing so would probably kill the bird, it would not explode."
"Question: Can birds burp? I use to live near South Padre Island and it is reported that if you feed a sea gull an Alka Seltzer tablet they will explode.
Answer: It is an old urban myth that seagulls will explode if they eat an Alka Seltzer. We burp because gaseous byproducts are produced in digestion and forced up through the esophagus (See KidsHealth for a good explanation). Birds have a different digestive system than humans, though they do have an esophagus and are capable of burping. Birds have no teeth and many swallow their food whole or hold it in their crop to regurgitate. For more of bird digestion see Colorado State University's online biomedical textbook, which includes a chapter on the Digestive Physiology of Birds."

I dont know why I am answering this question. Firstly, don't feed the pigeons if you have intentions on harming them. NOT COOL!! If you remember back in the early 80's a nine yr old kid in Glen Burnie MD put a whole bag of POP Rocks In his mouth and tried to down a cold can of COKE. It literally blew his esophagus apart and he died. Picture yourself as a pigeon eating the alka seltzer. k? Get a clue...that is so WRONG!

Pigeons have no way of letting the extra air out... They can not burp or fart. So yes, I have seen it first hand sad but true.
