I have two cats, Jabba-male and Tippy-female, both are fixed. Well for the last couple of weeks when my husband and I go up to bed, TIppy will follow or already be up there (thats not the change) Well Jabba will set down stairs and start yowling and meowing and just going on about something. We will yell for him to come up stairs, in case he 'lost' us. Sometimes he comes others he doesn't, but he will just set downstairs and cry for hours, eventually Tippy will go down to see whats wrong, sometimes he stops and others he doesnt. He has plenty of food and water, there are tons of toys. They aren't allowed outside and haven't been outside in years, so thats not the problem. He did it all night last night and now today he is following me around and meowing like he wants something, but I have no idea what he wants. He doesn't set still for hugs and cuddles, he just wants me to follow him around, but he doesn't go anywhere in particular. Whats up with my cat? Can you shed light on it?

Uh yeah smel, thanks. *rolls eyes* I said he was crying at night I didn't say he had a behavior problem...

and he and Tippy are going to the vet Thursday for their yearly check up and shots.

Any other ideas?

Tippy's attention is making him jealous.

Try this, tell him directly that you're going to bed and see if he wants to come with you. And then let him know what exactly is going to happen to him if he decides to behave like that tonight and follow though.

A lot of times, a change in a cat's behavior (i.e. yowling all night) indicates there is something wrong with the cat (i.e. he's sick). Also, there is some evidence that pets can sense when things are wrong. Like, they "know" several days in advance when an earthquake occurs. Something like that may be going on in this case as well.

maybe timmy fell into the well...

my old roommate's male cat did this. it sucked! i she closed her door at night, but i slept in an open loft type room w/ no doors! he would sit in my room crying all night long. i tried squirt guns, but he thought that was a game and liked dodging the water. it's awful and i'm sorry. boy cats are annoying. it is probably boredom. just like men--if he's awake and bored, you need to entertain him. i have no suggestions, except maybe try to chase him around for an hour before bed to wear him out.
the problem at our old apartment was that we were all in school during the day, so he would sleep. we all had evening jobs, so he would sleep. we'd get home for a couple of hours and then we'd want to sleep. but he didn't b/c he already had.

A check up is a good idea. I have had a cat who started to do this and we just didn't know why. Like you, we tried everything.

What happens if YOU go downstairs to him?

Our cat was older when he started this behaviour.

In the end we started to leave the light on for him...that seemed to help.

It could be that even though he has been fixed he may still have the in born desire to roam around. would it be safe to let him out and see if that is what he wants? is he declawed? This happen to my brothers cat and he finnalyy let him out and the cat came back a little happier. I don't know if that help or not
