It has been 62 days since she last mated, and she has been 'moping' around lately. She has been trying to nest in all the furniture, but has finally picked a spot on top of some blankets. Her nipples are swollen, but she doesn't look pregnant otherwise. BUT, this morning, her stomach was gurling and making all of these strange noises. Could this be a false pregnancy? Do dogs usually have noise coming from their stomachs during the 62 day or so?

Okay, well thank you! I do know about C-sections, and I was only assuming that the noises could be from babies. I have definently done my reading, though I still am unsure. I think she may have one or two, but how big are they when they are born? Because she is pretty small ... and the babies would have to be too. The daddy is small also. We are going to have them both fixed after this; we just wanted a litter because she is so special to us and we wanted to keep a puppy of theirs.

Dogs have digestive noises ALL THE TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You should take the dog to the vet and have a pregnancy confirmed since c-sections in Pugs are sort of common.

You do not "hear" like little puppies barking or something!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF you were that concerned and did research, you would have already HAD her to a vet to confirm pregnancy and have a vet ON CALL so that if there are problems, you could know who to call. An x-ray can help tell how many are there so you know when she is done!!! You let the breeding happen, you should be a little more pro-active in healping prevent complications!!!!!!!

Just because she is small and the male is small, it does NOT meant hat she will be able to whelp naturally!!! It is the size and shape of her pelvis!!!!! Many Pugs, even large ones, just cannot give birth naturally!!!
It is sad when people claim that they love the pet and just want another like it and then they do NOTHING to make sure that there are no complications. Right now, YOU are a BREEDER and should do what ever you can to make things go well. That means getting her to a vet BEFORE labor starts!!!!!!!!!!! I guess you have never seen a bit ch in a sudden emergency when a puppy is stuck in the canal and cannot be passed. It is not a good scene at all!!!!!

It sounds to me like your girl is having a false pregnancy. During the false pregnancies your girl can get a swollen belly, mood swings and clinginess and they can even have milk come in. But by 62 days your girl would either have had puppies already or should be in labor. Her tummy would have been big and hanging, even if it was a small litter. The tummy gurgling is probably just some stress and hormones, I wouldn't worry about it. After about 66 days she may attach herself to a stuffed animal and carry it around like it was a puppy. Mine haven't, but I have heard of others doing it. Then by 2-4 weeks from now she should get back to normal. You have guessed right when you asked if it is a false pregnancy.

Just a note, please be sure you want to breed your girl. Pugs do not always deliver naturally and need c sections. I know another breeder that lost two of her girls in surgery. You must be sure you are willing to take the risk. Of course, most of the time things will go well. Just prepare yourself and try to find some books on breeding, you will find a lot of info. Also, pugs require attention during birth that other breeds don't. Are you ready to be up around the clock every two hours for two weeks to make sure the mom doesn't crush a puppy by accident? A lot of pug pups have been lost to moms that didn't know they were even laying on the puppy. I recommend you just give your girl lots of love and reassurance for now. She'll be back to her snorty self before you know it and if you want to breed then you can try again next time. Please consider finding a breeder to mentor you. It makes a world of difference.

One more thing... I know how bad you can feel when you have been planning on those puppies coming only to find out there were none. My sympathies, try to devote the feelings into getting your pug in top shape for another try and enjoy her for now.

If by some chance she does go into labor, (I don't think she will), please e-mail me and I will give you some further instructions. If anything were to happen, it would be now, or within 2 or 3 days at most. That's another reason I think it's a false pregnancy.
Good luck.

Hey,
My pug just had puppies one week ago and I can tell you that you would most definately know if she was going to have puppies....especially since they're only pregnant for 63 days. My girl had 4 and was as big as a house ! It may be possible that she has one in there but I would say highly unlikely. You would be able to feel the puppies in there... if you can't you could take her to a vet and they would most likely be able to, or have her x-rayed. But sorry darlin if you were shooting for puppies... I personally think you lucked out this time around. Let me know if she does have any though.... Id love to see them.
All the best,
MDM

She may be pregnant with only one pup or 2 and she would not look much heavier than before. Take her to the vet so he can confirm if your dog is pregnant. As the other poster stated, she may need a c-section and you need to know this agead of time. Stomach noises are normal whether pregnant or not. Our tummies make them all the time, same with dogs.
