my cat is an 11 yrs old, female. i had a bag of lime on my porch and i kept catching her licking it, and in the house she keeps getting into the ashtrays and eating and licking the ashes. could she be lacking a vitamin or mineral that makes her do this?

I have a 2 y/o dog who's previous owner fed her human food. Now she's with us and she won't budge (to eat dog food). We have not given in either, but it's hard for us to see her not eat.

will she
a) starve herself to death if we don't give her human food
or
b) eventually get hungry enough that she will eat her dry dog food?

thanks

For 10 points (best answer), the answer must be well thought out. ;-) But all answers will be appreciated. You can feel free to make a long answer or tell a story too if you like, and poetry is more than welcome as well.

I currently have 2 VERY friendly guinea pigs! They have play dates with my friends's guinea pigs and my cousin's guinea pig all the time and they love them! If you live in Los Angeles County, California, and have friendly guinea pigs and would like to make a playdate for them, let me know!

I have had my cat (my baby) for almost 7 years. And she has always liked to lick plastic bags- like the ones from the grocery store. I still can't figure out if she does it when she's nervous or wants attention or what (being a cat, her reason for doing it probably changes). She likes to lick people too, but other than that its just the plastic bags. Has anyone else ever seen this? Or have any ideas why she does it? Just wondering . . .

My favorite way to pamper my dog is this: If I have to give her a bath (and she hates them) before I draw her water I take her softest favorite blanket and put it in the dryer. While she in the bath, her blankie is in the dryer toasting up. Then after her bath and dry off, she runs frantically around the house. Then I get her warm blanket out of the dryer. When she sees that blanket. Oh Boy. She scrambles for it, cuddles up in it and doesn't move off that warm blanket for at least an hour.

But I'm always looking for other ways to spoil my dog...So, how do you pamper yours?

A friend of mine owns a 5-year old Pit Bull who is the sweetist dog I have ever met - seriously. He is so affectionate and loving. He constantly wants to be petted and loved. And in return he rubs all up on you and lets you know he loves you.

Like most Pit Bulls these dogs are extremely intimidating in appearance and can be aggressive. But this Pit, named Chico, has never shown any sign of aggression and never even really shows much interest when meeting a total stranger. He will walk right up to anyone it seems.

Should we be concerned that he may just snap one day and try and attack someone?

My mother recently adopted a Dalmation from the Dalmation rescue. So far, he's doing great. He has gained weight and built muscle. He loves adults and children alike, however, any time he sees another dog, his hair on his back stands straight up, he starts barking and tries to break loose from his leash trying to get at the other animal. My mom has a pincher collar, and that doesn't phase him. She's tried a shock collar, and it isn't helping. She has tried turning his back to the other dog and getting his attention and he'll have nothing to do with that. She tried to enroll him in training classes, but never had a first day because they didn't want to run any risk with him attacking any of the other dogs. What can she do to get the dog's aggressiveness under control?

I love animals and for some reason they find my house. I was a vet tech for 12 years so I know what can happen at the pound. My husband and I found the sweetest male boxer at the end of our rule road. He is just skin and bones and missing hair due to a flea bite allergies < we think> We have 6 dogs right now and do not have the room or money for this sweet pea. I put the word out to everyone I know. I don't want to take him to our human so. Does anyone know if there is a boxer rescue and how does it work and our they good people ?

I was thinking about training him to do housework, and things of that nature.
