I'm not really sure what the differences are in the two categories of pets that you like and don't like are. Giant millipedes are cool, vegetarian, inexpensive, don't bite, quiet, and can do well in a small terrarium. Give it a piece of cucumber or half a strawberry and it will be happy for days. They are about 10 inches long at most. Kids find them fascinating because they resemble a train and are usually walking around a lot of the time.

Gerbils and rats - but rats can escape out of tiny holes, so be sure to give it good protection (and they have a higher chance of biting you than gerbils).
Gerbils are cute - but may are more expensive to keep. They're smart, too.
My friend has 4 gerbils, 2 rats, 2 rabbits, and 7 guinea pigs. She answered this question, not me!

If you are wanting a reptile I would suggest a Leopard gecko.
Reptile set up may be a little costly to set up but once you have everything they can be easy to keep.
Something furry - Hamster, Guinea pig, rabbit, rat

I would include frogs with fish, because you aren't supposed to touch them, they absorb whatever is on your skin through theirs.
A turtle might work for you. Box turtles are fairly common. They eat fruits, vegetables, and live worms, in addition to whatever pre-packaged food you give them. They don't smell and aren't much of a flight risk. Other than the initial cost of providing a proper habitat, and food, they don't cost much to maintain.
Keep in mind that lizards, turtles, etc require mineral supplements to stay healthy. So whatever you get, make sure you find out what they require.

You have to be careful w/reptiles most are fairly delicate and need a specific environment. If you are looking for easy care a hamster, mouse or rat would be my suggestion

Reptiles are a *lot* of work. Small mammals and birds are pretty easy.
