I remember during the Vietnam War the local paper published a map of Vietnam in 1967 that showed where we had control. The following year, in 1968 they published a new map showing we had lost a lot of ground -- yet the paper still insisted we were winning.

Today, on Yahoo news was this headline:
U.S., Iraqi troops control only a third of Baghdad
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S.-led soldiers control only about a third of Baghdad, the military said on Monday, almost four months into a security crackdown during which troops are dying at rates not seen for more than two years.

To me it is as clear as day we have not won the hearts and minds of the people and that when this is over democracy will not win over a dictatorship. That we need to lick our wounds and get the hell out and let the Iraqi people sort this out.
What are your thoughts?
