I have lived in my home for 18 years. Nothing has changed outside. This year birds started sitting on the deck rails and they are making a mess.
I found spike strips for sale on the Internet. They do not look safe and seem way too expensive at $2 per lineal foot.

I am looking at a vaction home which is about 20 years old and it is a nice chalet style house but it has a reversed configuration - it's backside (plain with 2 windows) are on the street and the frontside is on its backyard. The owners says they built it to have a view of the woods but it looks odd. My concern is will it sell easily?

We've all heard the expression, he/she wouldn't hurt a fly - but, who else is like me and can't stand them? I've recently found instead of trying to swat them with my fly swatter - I use my dyson to get rid of them! It works a treat. What other methods can you recommend?

I am growing herbs in containers on my patio this summer for the first time ever. They are doing very well, which is great, but I'm not sure what to do as far as harvesting & storing them goes. Someone told me you shouldn't pick them except for immediate use in cooking until the end of the summer, but if I wait that long to harvest, they may take over my patio! I am using what I can for cooking, but that barely makes a dent in them. Please enlighten me as to when I can harvest, how to do it, ways to preserve, etc. Specifically, I have sweet basil, Italian oregano, garlic chives, rosemary, sage, marjoram, mint, and spearmint. Thanks!

The apartment building next to my house is only about 6 feet away from my kitchen window. My window over the sink is high enough to just look over the concrete privicy wall between the buildings. So when I do dishes I face the sliding glass doors into the apartment next door. The sliding glass door faces the wall and seem to be the only windows in the tiny apt.
I have seen my neighbor naked/dressing several times. He does have a privacy wall and does not face public property(so not considered indecent exposure). He is very nice and kind of cute, decent body with a little extra weight. But i feel bad cuz he has no natural light if he shuts the blinds and has no other room to chance since it is a bachelor style apt.
What should I do? I am not offended really. Would you say something to him? If so what? Is it wrong to just let it go and keep seeing him like that?
I am not intrested in hooking up with him and I dont enjoy it but I am not grosssed out by it either.

I found these instructions on how to grow tomatoes upside down. http://webpages.charter.net/tomato/...
I was wondering if it could work with other viney vegetable plants like peppers, eggplants, beans, melons, squash etc.? Also instead of growing them through a hole in the bottom, what about a hole on the side? Using the same instructions.

I remember as a kid in the early 1980's having a really bad winter. The snow brought powerlines down, we had no eletricity for a few days.We had to boil water on an open coal fire to wash or make drinks, toast bread etc.We had candles for light. The only sound was a battery radio and the chatter of the family. It was quite cosy really. Can you recall having a powercut that went on for a few days? What did you do to pass the time, or how did you prepare family meals?

I have a Lazy Boy rocker that is under a year old. I rock fairly frequently in it, and it has begun to squeak. I can' tell if it's the spring or the wood making the squeak. Any tips?
