problem with easy set swimming pool and cats?

just put up a pop up pool (with the blow up ring on the top) and the cats have been trying to get in it - thus putting holes in the blow up ring - any suggestions on what we can put around the ring to protect it from cat claws - thanks

Get a smaller pool near by so that the cats can go in there.
They are probably looking for fresh water to drink.

Oh yeah, put some moth balls around the perimeter of the pool. Cats do not like the smell of it.
