I found these instructions on how to grow tomatoes upside down. http://webpages.charter.net/tomato/...
I was wondering if it could work with other viney vegetable plants like peppers, eggplants, beans, melons, squash etc.? Also instead of growing them through a hole in the bottom, what about a hole on the side? Using the same instructions.

Most veggies can be grown using this method. Problem would be with larger ones such as melons and eggplants. My Mother-in-law grows tomatoes and peppers this way. Holes in the side would do the same thing but you would need to watch that the main stalk does not get cut on the edge of the container.

I tried the tomatoes upside down this year - not too impressed. They still had some disease issues. The container dries out quickly.
And.... the birds love the convenience of a high perch to eat cherry tomatoes.
I would suspect that the weight of the fruit would break melon stems. Note the tomatoes do try to bend and grow upward. The more rigid stems of the peppers and eggplants might also snap.

A friend of mine bought those upside down tomato bags and everything he planted in them died. They need to be watered several times a day. The water just runs out and the way it is designed it dries out fast too. Good luck.

Tomatoes and beans will vine in exceedingly much any path. Peppers and eggplant are actually not real vines. Melons and squash are too heavy and cumbersome and could smash out. transforming into in the time of the element works nicely. you're able to try this with putting pots and evidently extremely exceedingly with ivy, nasturtiums or vinca. i in my view choose a strawberry pot.
