I remember as a kid in the early 1980's having a really bad winter. The snow brought powerlines down, we had no eletricity for a few days.We had to boil water on an open coal fire to wash or make drinks, toast bread etc.We had candles for light. The only sound was a battery radio and the chatter of the family. It was quite cosy really. Can you recall having a powercut that went on for a few days? What did you do to pass the time, or how did you prepare family meals?

I have seen this a number of times. Thats why I keep camping equipment in usable condition and a couple kerosene heaters ready to go in the winter. We have candles in all our rooms for emergency use. I usually just read when power is out. Hard on the eyes by candlelight but doable.
