I went to this housing seminar today and this speaker talked about Habitat for humanity in Atlanta, how you can easily qualify if you volunteer 250 hours to other building projects, you rent your house for one year, you make payments on time and if you assist to 12 housing classes for first time buyers...other benefits also include no Interest on your mortage, low monthly payments, etc...is this all real? Also how good are these houses? In terms of construction, you have some people with some or no knowledge building it, how certain are you that you are getting a good secure and long lasting house ? Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated....if you currently live in a Habitat for Humanity house please tell me your experience...thanks !

We might be moving into a new house but we've heard the landlady is really horrible and may try and rip us off by stealing our deposit etc. What questions could we ask or subjects could we bring up to possibly make her show her true colours?

I asked a neighborhood teen-ager to water my container and border plants while I am away for a week. The job takes about 20 minutes a day, and with the hot, dry weather, I suspect she will have to water them daily.

Any suggestions on the going rate? She was to shy to state what she thought was fair.

Now I have to decide whether my & children's bedroom should be upstairs or should I stay in the floor having living, dining &kitchen space to avoid unnecessary climbing up &down? I am afraid I will have to stay alone on the floor as children will be staying upstairs for sleeping ,studying, etc. except dining. But I shall have to stay down only to attend the visitors.

It's time to replace my washer and dryer, and since we have such a tiny laundry room, I was thinking of getting the newer front loading machines, and building a (self supporting) counter top over them. The units would be enclosed on 5 sides, with only a few inches of clearance in the rear. Does anyone know if this would cause a problem with over heating ? Of course, the dryer would have it's exhast ventalation, but do the units themselves generate substantial enough heat as to require ventalation space around them? I can't seem to find this information from the pre-sale info I've found so far.

Thanks in advance.

For the past 3 weeks, I've had something coming into my kitchen cabinets EVERY night, It's very large,,,,,I can tell by the sound. It knocks my pots and pans around. I've set out mouse traps, rat traps, havahart traps, and finally a trap for catching animals outside. I've set them with peanut butter, raw bacon, corn, cheese, bread......yet for 3 weeks NOTHING!!!! It's like he is too smart to get caught!! I'm thinking he has to be a possum or a field rat since he only shows up at night. Please help me with some suggestions so I can finally get some sleep.

We live in town, so shooting them is not an option. These darn rabbits are eating my shrubs, taking a bite of every strawberry on my plants, and just being a general nuisance. I am not averse to actually killing them, but I just can't shoot them in town. Is there a poison or deterrent that works?
