I asked a neighborhood teen-ager to water my container and border plants while I am away for a week. The job takes about 20 minutes a day, and with the hot, dry weather, I suspect she will have to water them daily.

Any suggestions on the going rate? She was to shy to state what she thought was fair.

Sorry for the bad grammar; I meant "too shy"

Very good question and one that is hard to answer. I have been in the same situation. It depends on what you are able to offer and the value you place on keeping those plants alive.

I would offer at least enough for the teen to buy a CD or DVD for their time which is around $20, but then that is me. I look at it as exchanging something they would like to buy instead of an exact amount of money.

$5 a day. It may be only 20 minutes, but she is providing valuable and reliable service.

Well I think that gardners are paid $50 hr, so she is going to be working approx. 100 mins so pay her around $50-75.
