Now I have to decide whether my & children's bedroom should be upstairs or should I stay in the floor having living,dining &kitchen space to avoid unnecessary climbing up &down? I am afraid I will have to stay alone on the floor as children will be staying upstairs for sleeping ,studying,etc. except dining.But I shall have to stay down only to attend the visitors.

As long as it is not a single home for five families. You normally need about a minimum of 200 sq. ft. per person and one bathroom for every four to five people. You should be ok.
Look for ways to organize the house better - bunk beds, a day bed for a daughter, and other things that might save space. A lot of it will just require some planning.

It is my understanding that a duplex home offers the most for your money and generally has more usable space than a single home in the same price range. There is always the possibility for converting the basement into a living space if you need it.

Duplex residence convenient for you is depends upon site/cost. if it is lavish and luxurious not suitable for your requirements. and the children of your below age15 not recommended in first floor. first u know about site area, if it is more than 200 sq.yds, u can construct the building in ground floor only. consult with your site measurements...
