For the past 3 weeks, I've had something coming into my kitchen cabinets EVERY night, It's very large,,,,,I can tell by the sound. It knocks my pots and pans around. I've set out mouse traps, rat traps, havahart traps, and finally a trap for catching animals outside. I've set them with peanut butter, raw bacon, corn, cheese, bread......yet for 3 weeks NOTHING!!!! It's like he is too smart to get caught!! I'm thinking he has to be a possum or a field rat since he only shows up at night. Please help me with some suggestions so I can finally get some sleep.

There is no food in the cabinets where he's coming in......and I have set out poison too. It's like he's just coming in to hang out!! He's gotten brave, and now comes in when the TV and lights are on.

It is probably a RAT packrat). They can be the size of a small cat! Disgusting! They can come through a hole that is 1" in diameter. Under your sinks there are large holes around the plumbing that they can easily enter through and get access to the rest of your cupboards. They can travel throughout your house through the walls. If they aren't gotten rid of they can chew wires and start a housefire. To trap them you need to get an exterminator if you are squeemish or a large rattrap that is substantially larger than a regular mousetrap. If you don't want to trap it you can get Warferrin (ratpoison) it bleeds them to death. After ingesting the poison they will Lock for water so put a bowl of water away from the house and the rat will leave your home in search of water. Good Luck!

Remove the food and bait traps as another member suggested, but...also try to follow it's trail. either empty the cupboards and start at that end or go around the outside of the house until you find a hole 1/4 inch or bigger.
BUT remember how small a 1/4 inch is!
Then chicken wire or cement over the hole. Don't bother with wood because they can chew threw it.
But try to find the entrance and close it up!

I had a rat problem. I got a grown cat and the next day, the rats were gone, never returned. The rats were huge too.

not sure that would work well with a possum.

probably a raccoon, they are very smart and hard to catch. Might try a havahart trap big enough for a raccoon with dry cat food in it.

Remove all food from your cupboards. Bait the traps; don't feed it a meal, just a little tiny bit.

Dcon(rat poison) or a bowl of anti-freeze. Not very humane but they will do the trick.

It's a Possum and you need to call animal control, they can be VERY dangerous. Even if you have to call at night when you hear it. Heck, you can call 911 if you have to and let them know you need animal control.
