It's one thing to be physically ready as far as preparation. Your question would be more to the point had you asked if we were mentally ready. Purchasing a firearm, and the responsibility of taking someone's life go hand in hand. Make sure you're ready to snuff out someone's life before you buy a gun, because it's very likely that you'll have to. So.....Are you ready?

I have grandkids around now, so no, they're not in easy reach. But I figure my Great Pyrennes will keep a burglar occupied until such time as I can retrieve my 686, load it, and carry it around picking up the pieces of what used to be said burglar.

Jeeeeeeesssshhh! All you trigger-happy yahoos think about is guns guns guns. After the recent disaster I'd think you'd realize that some sort of gun control is the only sane route to take. If you go through the proper channels, register and learn the laws concerning gun ownership and learn how to use and maintain your firearms, you will have no trouble, if you're legit. This is not the wild west anymore. If someone broke in through my front door, or any door or window right now I'd tell them "Take whatever you want" because money and stuff is what they are after. Or if you live alone, get a big dog that will protect you.

I like to leave my .357 in my child's toy box so that when some one breaks in and I go reach for my piece they think I am just going for a toy...
I keep my side-by-side behind the leaf rake incase some one attempts anything funny in my garden...
Say, when did the Department of Mental Retardation start issuing LTCs and FIDs?
