My house has two fireplaces that have pilot lights always running. THey are always on even during the summer months when the fireplace are never used. I was wondering, are my gas bills significantly higher with them always running?

I cant figure out how to open up my fireplaces to get at these pilot lights to shut them off so i am wondering if the best option is to just leave them running forever, as they have always been

If you are using propane-you may can save money by shutting them off. If natural gas, -then you may have to pay a minimum anyway. If you use nat. gas for heating water and cooking, then you may want to shut off the pilots because you will already be using enough to be more than the minimum.

yes, the pilot lights do waste alot of gas. there should be gas cutoff valves either in the front of the fireplace or on the sides down low, maybe hidden by a panel but they are there. i'd switch over to electronic ignition to save money

If this is been out of provider it in all probability has air in the line, Open the gasoline line and the section the place it says to depress the pilot button for a minute, do this for a jiffy then attempt igniting it. whether that's a concern previous that don't attempt to repair it until you experience cormfortable with that style of artwork.
