I have a 16 month old daughter and just her and I are moving into our first home, a 2 bedroom, 1 bath apartment. I am trying to compile a list of items that we need when we first move into the apartment. I can think of a few basic items, but I'm sure I'm missing some really useful items to get for in the home.

We had come back from a 2 week vacation and inside the house there were piles of sand that ants were bringing into the house. At first glance, we thought we had termites and there were wood shavings but no, they were piles of sands. The sand is through out the house along the baseboards. In the 25 years that we have lived in this house, we have never seen antything like this before.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of ants these are or why that are doing this?

i am trying to avoid plastic, but find it almost impossible to do! only so many things are conducive to glass jars- so what do you use instead? air gets in cloth bags. and even organic, natural food is sold in pastic bags and containers.

I've had 4 in the last 1 1/2 yrs. They work great at first than just stay lukewarm on High heat. It seems the Full size I used to use lasted for years. I'm thinking the problem is with the dual controls. My current blanket that's acting up is for Lands End for $199 so these are NOT cheap blankets I'm talking about.

I am interested in a sleep number bed, and was wondering where I could find some good deals on them. I'd rather them be new instead of used. King sized dual chamber with cordless remotes.

Thanks.

I am planning to research and aide in the design of our future home. I am looking for the most energy effecient, practical, most nature like house. It's a lot of work, possibly $$, but I want something that is different, has good flow, and compliments our lifestyle. Any thoughts on where to start?

...although according to the neighbours it was a long time ago. However, i learnt recently of the Australian couple who've just discovered they are living in Dennis Nielsen's old house, 29 Cranley Gardens, Muswell Hill.. (Serial Killer, 16 bodies, and counting..)
Do any of you live somewhere with a gruesome history? Something that makes your friends go "Ooh, how could you live there?"
Obviously, not all the houses where murders are comitted get demolished, Are the new tenants informed or do they find it out from the neighbours?

I took these photos whilst travelling some years ago, and have found them in a box in the roof they have all stuck together and I cannot get them apart without ripping them. How do I separate them safely without having to pay a fortune to someone for restoration? Thanks

I'm researching buying or building my first home in a well desired area here in Houston near the Medical Center and Downtown. I currently live in the neighborhood but I'm renting. I really like this area, great schools, central local, etc.
The neighborhood was flooded by Tropical Storm Allison and so now people have come in and rebuilt on the land. Now the neighborhood is filled with what I like to call mini mansions. Property value is high and there's always at least 4-5 new homes being built.
My question is should I get into one of the older homes and rebuild later or just get in and build? Is it expensive to have a home built in a well desired neighborhood? I'm assuming so but maybe it is not as bad as I think.
How would I pay for a venture like this? What are the costs involved?
What kind of down payment would I have to make on say a 300-500/K home if I had it built?

The lowest price for a pre-existing home is about 279/K give or take.

Thanks in Advance!

I want to buy a nice medium-sized apartament plant. I am very disappointed because I had 2 unsuccessful attempts to grow a majesty palm - beautiful plant, but unadaptable to the conditions in my apartment. My apartment is not really well lit, because I face north. The temperature is usually high, about 77 degrees F, but it can vary (not a lot, though). I need advice on which plant would be best to buy. I like especially plants with long leaves, but I want to consider other plants too.
