Actually both are very over rated. The additional costs over other brands like Luxaire, Goodman, Fraisher Johnson, York, Payne etc are due to the constant advertising that we all see on our TV on a daily basis. Another problem with either one of the two is that they are a "Dealer protected" furnace. This means that only a Trane or a Lennox dealer can purchase the repair parts. Unlike the other furnaces listed and some others, if your furnace needs a part, your local HVAC contractor can readily pick up at numerous wholesale supply houses. If I were to install one over the other, I would install the Lennox.

i sale and install trne for over 20 years so i have only had trane in my house. but being in the business i would suggest that you pick the best dealership over product name. the best system installed wrong will not last. and for everyone talking about getting parts through the wholesale line most homeowners are not trained in working on the furnace, so they spend about three times more then having it fix right the first time, this has just being my experience

BOTH ARE VERY GOOD, HOWEVER MY EXPERIENCE SAYS THAT THE TRANE UNITS HAVE A LONGER TERM RELIABILITY VS THE LENNOX. TRANE WARRANTIES ARE GREAT ESP THE COMPRESSORS.
