We had come back from a 2 week vacation and inside the house there were piles of sand that ants were bringing into the house. At first glance, we thought we had termites and there were wood shavings but no, they were piles of sands. The sand is through out the house along the baseboards. In the 25 years that we have lived in this house, we have never seen antything like this before.
Does anyone have any idea what kind of ants these are or why that are doing this?

get some fresh bay leaves and break them in pieces. lay them on windowsills and entrances. they don't like the smell and it won't hurt kids and pets.

I have no idea what they are doing or why but, you might try sprinkling Boric Acid around the outside of your foundation and around the baseboards inside your house. Or wherever they are getting in. Boric Acid is the active ingredient of "Roachproof" this may also work with ants. G-luck

They thought you had left the place for them so they started moving in!... :)

Call a pest company to get the place sprayed or visit the garden store for ant deterrent you put by your entries and around areas they can come in.
