I want to buy a nice medium-sized apartament plant. I am very disappointed because I had 2 unsuccessful attempts to grow a majesty palm - beautiful plant, but unadaptable to the conditions in my apartment. My apartment is not really well lit, because I face north. The temperature is usually high, about 77 degrees F, but it can vary (not a lot, though). I need advice on which plant would be best to buy. I like especially plants with long leaves, but I want to consider other plants too.

I would say an ivy plant. Hang it not too far from a window. They grow fast. Do fine with little sunlight. They can take a bit of mistreatment, but like most plants, do better with good care.

Consider Spathophyllum: it's beautiful, it has large blue-green lancelolate leaves, velvet white calla-lily like flowers, and best of all it loves indoors and never needs any sun.
As an added bonus, it will send out new shoots from the base, which will form new plants. Look after it, and it will become your favourite, as it is mine.

That depends. Plants are NOT inanimate objects. They have individual needs & requirements, & if you're not able to take care of them accordingly, then maybe your best choice would be something artificial. Call a nursery & ask for suggestions. -The plant you save could be the one you spend alot of money on.

Ivy plants are okay, and hardy, but chances are if you live in an apartment your life is a bit busy, and maybe you forget to water or you are gone alot? Opt for a jade plant or other succulent. Like a cactus, they retain water, making it HARD TO KILL, but they look beautiful. I used to always kill plants and would have to ask my horticulturally adept friend to perform a "plant rescue". Needless to say, she bought me a jade in 2003 and it is still alive!
