We live in California, there are 5 showers taken at the house a day, 10 loads of laundry a week. The heat is turned up to 75 degrees for about 16 hours a day and turned down to 60 for the other 8 hours of the day. If this does not seem weird to you could you give us some energy conservation tips. Thank you

Sounds like I have a squirrel stuck in my office wall. It had been in the drop ceiling but must have fallen into the wall. He will surely die, will it stink or can I leave it there? Don't want to put a hole in my wall if I don't have to. Also, think it will be dead by morning? My staff will not be able to work if he keeps scratching like he is now.

I want to get a new mattress, but would really like to keep the price down. We have an air mattress now, and I don't want another one. Since we will be moving in about four or five months, we are waiting to buy major furniture, so we won't be needing a box spring. Again, my budget is $300--maybe a bit more.

I was given a new aloe plant (about 8 inches tall) about 6 months ago and it still can't stand up straight on its own. New stems are growing and it otherwise looks healthy, it just always needs to be kept upright with three popsicle sticks. Any advice?

We need a retaining wall about 4-ft. tall, 20-ft. long. We don't really care about how nice it looks, it's just to hold back a hillside, and we have nothing in our budget for something like this. Any suggestions BESIDES railroad ties, which we were told we would have to replace?

The basic question: I don't know what to use for mulch/weed prevention in my veggie garden. Any suggestion?
The Details: I live in Maryland, Eastern Shore (45 mins to the ocean by car) Zone 7. The soil is very sandy and used to be a wheat field for many years before our house was built 4 years ago. We have horses and use a compost pile to mix in the garden. Our garden this year will be much bigger then any before because I'm planning on home canning allot of it. It will be at least 50x90 not counting the 40 tomato plants. I'm looking for something to use as mulch/weed prevention in the garden between rows and under the plants. I do plan on watering with soaker hoses and no overhead sprinklers to keep down the diseases and problems as much as possible.
The Kicker: We don't have much money to spend + we have a cat, dogs, children and those stupid voles/moles that dig tunnels throughout the yard and tons of grubs for the voles to eat. The sandy soil splashes up on the plants whenever it

I'd like to at least try to live in another state. I currently live in MN and don't really like it! It's too cold! I really want to live somewhere it's warm! I'd like somewhere that is sunny a lot, I don't do well with gloomy weather all the time! I don't want to live in a big city, or in the middle of nowhere, but more like a smaller town with a good hospital close by, for piece of mind. I'd like to have a big yard, possibly a farm. My husband and I were thinking about California, but not set on it. Neither of us has a degree, so we need somewhere we can get by, have a decent job, and not pay all our money for rent/mortgage. It needs to be safe, as we have a 2 year old, and plan on having more children in the future. My husband is in Iraq right now, so we won't be moving for at least a year, but I'd like to look into it now, to see if this is right for us! Thanks!

I bought a few 75 and 100 watt equivelant CF bulbs and was very disappointed at the dimness of them. Since it is a different type of light it does take some getting used to, I understand that. I also am trying to use these whenever possible to save energy and cut costs....But they are not very bright in big room areas. I had to switch back to a regular bulb in one room because it just seemed too dim.

What say you???
