I'm pretty sure it is the humidifier, because the static happens in the dry air. Also this helped me: get rubber soled slippers. If you walk around in socks on the carpet you are going to make it worse, constantly creating a charge.

As a rule, a humidifier will help the problem. It's the dry air in many houses that allows static to build up; more humidity in the air generally takes care of it.

Humidifier puts the moisture back into the air. Also rub yurself with a cling free fabric softener. Sounds stupid but it works.

Put about 1/4 cup liquid fabric softener in a quart spray bottle, fill with water, then spray on your carpets. It makes your home smell good and it gets rid of the static.
