Get any plant food with a higher middle number (i.e. 15-30-10). The first number is the amount of nitrogen, the second is phosphorous, and third represents potassium. Nitrongen is is for leaves, phosphorous for fruits and flowers, potassium is for root strength.

Any good gardening site should be able to go into more detail.

should be granule form. Usually, you will need to get it in a mixture. You can go to your local hardware store (Lowes, Home depot), but it's better to go to a Nursery for this.

you must have been told wrong or misheard them. I am certain you do not want phosphorous. Phosphates, maybe but not phosphorous.
