My water heater is acting up. It doesn't seem to hold enough hot water. This just started recently. It does heat up water, but the hot water will only last for 3-5 minutes, then it would suddenly turn ice cold. I nearly froze to death the first time it happened to me (JK). xP

I called up the company because the water heater is still in warranty. The guy said the parts are free but I have to pay for shipping. If I need someone to install the parts, it would cost me nearly $70 per hour for labor. A brand new water heater (that's comparable to the one I have right now) is only $200!

I want to try to fix it myself...

Does anyone have any experience with water heaters and know what might be wrong with mine?

I'm trying to figure out what type of repair or who would repair something like a house slipping. It seems the ground is settling lower in one part of the house than the other and the wall and the floor are coming apart, in addition to creating various cracks throughout the floors in different rooms. Is this retrofitting?

My boyfriend just called me from his hunting cabin; their carbon monoxide detector just went off and he wanted me to search the internet for him to see what they should do. I guess they run everything off propane and have the detector 'just in case.' They took the battery out and put it back in and it's not going off anymore. He said he 'thinks' they just changed the battery. I looked up some symptoms for him and he said no one has been feeling sick. Has anyone had this problem? Should I tell him to evacuate?

My garbage disposal died and need replacement. I bought an Insinkerator Spacer Saver 5/8 HP, but have not replace it yet.

Do you recommend a garbage disposal with 5/8 HP or do you recommend going a step up, perhaps 3/4 or so?

Thanks much!

I am trying to change out my 2 prong outlets out with modern 3 prong outlets. I have modern breakers, and some of the electrical was replaced before I bought my house. Most of it is still original. At some point someone replaced some of the 2 prong outlets with 3 prong ones, but didn't hook up the ground.

My plan is this:

Run ground wires from the galvinized steel plumbing to each of the steel flex counduits that all the original wire runs through. I can then ground the outlets to the steel outlet boxes.

My question is: Does this meet NEC? I have some 14 gauge wire with green insulation that would work, but it is stranded. Does stranded wire meet NEC for home wiring?

Thanks for any help that you can give me!

In a house, a line of lights and power went out. Not all lights and power. The house has the flip fuse type, but when we flip them off then on, nothing happens. We even tried the main fuse switch. what do you do in this situation? You can't replace them like the screw kind it seems. Help! thanks.

I tried bleeding it but no water and no air comes out. Sometimes it sounds like the radiator is sucking in the air. Any advice before calling the professionals.

I'm a young guy, and not a mechanical type. Pardon my lack of knowledge on this one.

The instructions for the engines on the lawnmower and the snowthrower both obviously say to change the oil either at the end of the in-season, or just before in-season use. And to change it every however many operating hours during in-season use. It also, though, says to change the oil every three months.

It's easier for me to do all maintenance at the end of the in-season so the machine's set to go for the next year -- thus I change the oil then.

My question is: Do I have to /again/ change it right before in-season use? (e.g., I changed the blower oil in March; do I have to again change it now, even though the machine hasn't been used -- though it has been three months?)

And how does this differ/compare with respect to car engines? I obviously change the car oil the earlier of either the mileage on the sticker or the 3-month date listed, regardless of mileage -- even if I haven't driven it much.

Thanks.

I looked at it today and it was set on 100 I moved it up to 125 because it seemed it took to long to reheat. What is the correct setting? I don't want it so high as to injure someone!

The electrrical system in the house has circuit breakers but someone said that wouldnt shut the fixture off if the wires heated up due to the increase in amperes and it could start a fire in the house ceiling. I was told that you have to change the wiring to a wall or ceiling fixture if you increase the number of light bulbs by putting in a new fixture with so many more bulbs. True or not?

I'm trying to patch several large cracks in my concrete driveway, I've rented a concrete saw which works pretty great (power tools rock!), for cutting concrete. Anyway I've cut about 3/4" into the concrete and was wondering if that is deep enough to put a solid patch. Please help!

Ok so this is the deal. About a year ago we hired a contractor to replace our bathtub with a jacuzzi tub. Well the guy was a douche and he installed the tub but didn't do a great job. At first the caulk was separating from the tub, so he came back to fix it. But now every time I step on the bathroom floor it squeaks. It doesn't matter where I step, in the tub, or just walking in the door the tub makes a god awful squeaking sound. And let's just say that it is making me crazy. How can I go about fixing this? Is there a way to fix it at all? I am not sure if the tub even fits, or perhaps is rubbing against the tile to create this sound. But I would really like to know if it is something I can fix myself, perhaps remove the caulk and add some shims. Any suggestions from guys in the business?
Thanks!
