I looked at it today and it was set on 100 I moved it up to 125 because it seemed it took to long to reheat. What is the correct setting? I don't want it so high as to injure someone!

120 won't do a great job washing dishes. I set mine at 140. It can cause burns, but not instantly. I have plenty of time to react if I have the hot/cold mix too hot. I have no children living here so burning them is not an issue.

I agree with others who say 120 degrees F is the maximum safe temp to prevent children from accidental scalding. But you might be losing heat if you have a long run of pipe. Measure the temperature with an instant read cooking thermometer at the faucet farthest from the water heater.Try pipe insulation. And, as another has suggested, perhaps you need to drain the heater periodically.

Set it at 115. That's the most economical. The reason it's taking long to reheat probably isn't related to the temperature you set it at. The WH could be getting plugged up with scale and losing heat transfer capacity or the element may be going out if it's electric.
