I live in the mid-atlantic region (VA coast).
Inspector found a small area inside my house on a base board that looked like termite damage, we looked outside in that same area, just other side of wall.....and after some light digging, saw 3 termites crawling around....
The inspector said he wouldn't recomend demolishing the wall or anything (he believes the actual wall is probably not ruined), maybe replacing the base board area (5inch long span) if we wanted.
My question is this.....w/ Christmas right around the corner, shelling out $500 dollars to start a contract right now just isn't something we want to do. However, we're expecting some extra money the 1st of the year and would love to get this thing rolling then.......if we waited, would it make a huge difference? Do termites work super fast?

i have an old tractor engine (17hp, ohv, single cylinder) that has a busted connecting rod. i want to fix it up to have spare. im an amateur mechanic with a good amount of experience with small engines and im confident o can do this, but it would be nice to have a guide in case i dont understand something.
im also assuming that i should replace all the gaskets before putting the engine back together. is there anything else i should replace on an old engine before i put it together? piston rings or anything else that might be worn out?

The room that houses the books in our office is generally closed off. The books are on bookcases in the room. The room is air conditioned.

Today I went in to find the books covered in mold! Thousands of dollars worth of literature has been destroyed.

We haven't used it for the whole summer....is it just that we haven't used it for so long or what? There is a series of clicking, multiple sequences, then it finally slows down. My husband cleaned the filter, and it seems to have stopped, but would a dirty filter cause all that clicking noise -- very unfamiliar with gas heating.

I have a one handled Mixet faucet.
here is a picture of it.
http://www.plumbersurplus.com/pdf/02335.pdf
The one I have is the top one.

It is leaking at the handle. Thus I assume it needs to be replaced. But does the handle need to be replaced or do I need to replace the cartridge behind it?

If so can this be done easily?
The handle sticks out about 2-3 inches from the wall and a silver piece goes into the wall.
Someone told me that the wall needs to be taken out.
This true? Thanks for the help
Paul

Houses built in the UK have 2 walls filled with insulation and double glazed windows to keep the warmth IN, if the same building methods were applied to a house built in tropical climes of 25-40 deg C with terential monsoons, would it keep the heat OUT? (would insulation work in reverse or is it better to leave it out altogether?).

ALSO, as for the services within UK houses, are they easier to access in an emergency (e.g a burst pipe) because they're housed between the interior and exterior wall? I ask because here in the tropics houses are built using walls with one layer of bricks then cemented/plastered, including any pipes and wiring etc. So when we had a pipe problem in the bathroom we had to remove tiles and chip away at the wall to get to the pipes. They're completely enclosed in concrete! I find it staggeringly impractical and unbelievable that builders would choose this method to build. Obviously it cuts costs. Opinions please...?

I have just moved into a new house (well old house really) and have noticed that the toilet bowl has a very small amount of water in it ... not much to aim at!!! I have tried manually filling it up and flushing it many times but it all ways rests at the same level?? It annoying me no end? Any suggestions? Just a note, this is a very old house and has a few sloping floors - not sure if this could be the problem. Not like the floors are at a sharp angle but there is a gradual tilt in the toilet. Some ideas, help would be much appreciated.

The fascia board underneath the gutter can be covered with aluminum (which requires a brake to bend), a new kind of rolled plastic found in home centers (which also requires a brake to bend), or plastic facia which is found in the siding section. Which is best and why? What fasteners are used?

2007-11-15 11:01:42 · 3 answers · asked by Pascha 7

This is a fairly new product. The idea of not having to worry about rot again or not having to install bent alumininum over the fascia is attractive. But what are the disadvantages?
Also, what sort of fasteners are used?
