You have to pull a vaccum before charging system with R134-A otherwise it will act as a restriction.

Wow, you did this by yourself? And then ran it? You know by having air in the system you just introduced the refrigerant oil to moisture. You know what that does? You just created an acid bath for the windings of the compressor motor, even if you evacuate and charge the system correctly, your new compressor will not last long. Im also guessing that you saudered and did not braze the fittings which is against the law. Brazed fittings can withstand much higher temperatures than sauder and will not melt in a house fire. Never heard of a homeowner trying this before, I suppose you didnt recover the refrigerant either.

Call a licensed pro. You cannot buy refrigerant without a license. It is illegal for unlicensed persons to work with or release it into the atmosphere (as you probably did when you changed compressors). EPA fines for this start at $10,000.

You need to have refrigerant in the system. There is no point in compressing air. The gas you need is probably R22 for older appliances or the newer R407c. They are not interchangeable.

This is where you hire a professional so you don't play with ozone depleting potential. Call and they will come over and fill your lines safely.
