the shower in my bedroom has a lever that you can flip up to stop the drain to take a bath. the lever hasn't worked since i moved in and the shower drains really slow. i took the two screws that hold the lever onto to the wall off to see if the rod or cable or whatever had come disconnected and there was nothing attached to it or behind it and i can't feel or see anything down that hole. how can i fix it so i don't have to stand in a pool of water every time i shower?

Why does all these plumbing problems happen on weekends?? :(
The last couple of weeks, turning on the hot water in my bathroom shower, the water hasn't been coming out that well, I have to turn it almost all the way to get a good stream (only the hot water knob). I was going to replace the whole faucet this weekend (as it is pretty old), but as I was taking a shower tonight, turning the hot water on, there was a LOUD rumbling noise, sounded as if the pipes were violently shaking. I immediatly turned it off. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Oh, I am running city water, btw.
Also, will replacing the facuet for a new one help? :s

when it tries to spin it makes a loud noise (sounds like its grinding, but its actually fast clicking and as it spins down the clicking slows as well.

I live in brooklyn and my roomate and I just found out we have bed bugs. It's not a huge problem yet (we've only seen one, but we have a few bites) but we want to stop the bugs before they get worse. We know we're supposed to bag all laundry/fabrics in the house and wash them, but most things I've researched say that an exterminator is the only way to really get rid of the bugs.

Does anyone know how much this would cost us (small apartment: living room, bedroom, and small office/closet) in brooklyn/nyc area? Does anyone have any recommendations (of exterminators or an effective way to do it yourself?)

Thankyou!

I have an aprox. 60 x 24 mobile home with a "bump out" of 39.5 x 13, sited on a slope where I can walk under one end of the home (I'm 6'6"). Want to see if it will be possible to excavate, and build a full basement uder it all. Or if it will be too costly.

Anyone out there have any clues as to why my washing machine doesn't spin anymore and how I might fix it? It runs through the rest of the programme fine, but won't spin.

Surely someone out there knows how to fix washing machines. I'm not a fool I can use tools, it won't be your fault if I blow myself up. Just point me in the right direction..please.

My 1930-built house has a small brick secondary chimney that only vents the gas water heater in the basement. It runs through an interior wall in the first and second floors. Though the roof and flashings were completely replaced 4 years ago, I have noticed for the past 6 months that the paint is peeling and the plaster thincoat is cracking in some of the walls and ceiling areas adjacent to where the chimney runs, especially in rainy weather. I've always been able to hear water running down the chimney during a rain (both chimneys are open top) but this dampness and cracking are new. Would a vented chimney cap prevent this or do you think I have a cracked liner that will need to be replaced? Or could it be that the caulking has shrunk away from the flashing?

It's a 2 1/2 story house with about an 8/12 roof pitch, so it would not be easy for me to climb up there. Also, there is no access to the attic/headspace. Should I call a roofer or a chimney guy?

Even with a flat yard? Or at least enlarge the small typical basement windows into larger windows to allow for additional light and escape if needed? What would the average cost be to do something like this? Thanks!

i'm buying a dremel for my boyfriend. What is the best multi-use model to get? He would most likely use it for odds and ends jobs, working on his car, and maybe a lil wood-working. i don't want to get him a cordless one though. Thanks!

My Sister recently moved out from her old apartment. When She moved, the Landlord didnt want to give her the Deposit because the carpet had a little tiny whole that you can hardly see, the kitchen countertop had a small scrash, and because She had to change the paint in the livingroom. Before She moved she Painted the Whole house and replaced the Carpet for a brand new and I even helped her. But the landlord wanted her to replace the entire kitchen countertop for a new one or She wouldnt get her deposit back. Do you think it's fair that after she had spent almost the whole amount of the deposit to paint and replace the carpet which most people said she didnt have to, this guy keeps on holding the deposit? Is he overcharging her? What do you think?

when i got my dishwasher installed it said that the performance may be lowered slightly and washes may take a little longer if it is connected to a hot water source!

i would have thought it was the other way around!!

The A/C are our house has been going out off and on over the last week or so. One night, about a week ago, The A/C kicked on for about two seconds, then turned off for about one or two seconds, then came back on and ran normally for a few minutes. Woke up the next morning and it was not running. Later the next afternoon, we turned it back on and it started to run normally. It ran fine for a couple of days, and then stopped working again. A couple of days later, I turned it back on and it started running fine again. Then last night, it was running normally, then shut off again for one or two seconds and kicked back on for a few more minutes. When I heard that, I thought it might have gone out again. Sure enough, it wouldn't come back on anymore, and wouldn't come on this morning either. Any idea as to what could be going on? It seems to cool fine when it will run, but it keeps going out on us.

Thanks!

We bought a self-propelled lawnmower 6 months ago from Sears Outlet with no warranty. @ weeks ago it stopped propelling itself! The mower itself still does it's job, it's just really hard to push. My 12 year old mows the lawn so we would really like to fix this problem so it is alittle easier on him.(we have a HUGE corner yard) What might be the problem?
