when i got my dishwasher installed it said that the performance may be lowered slightly and washes may take a little longer if it is connected to a hot water source!

i would have thought it was the other way around!!

I agree. I have not seen instructions that say this. You are wasting energy if the unit has a heater that needs to get the water to a certain temp before engaging in the wash cycle. Most DW's need 130 to 140 degree water to clean effectively and disolve the detergent.

Amazing. A dishwasher heats its own water yet you should always connect it to a hot water source? Maybe you should ask the engineer that made it instead of the general public.

Maybe the fact that you make your dishwasher and hot water heater work when on a hot source is the answer.

Does a dishwasher have a temp probe in the water or is it just timed for the temperature needed?

In the world of electronics you never know, best bet is to do as instructed for warranty purposes.

I would suggest re reading the manual, I have been installing Dishwasher for over 10 years and have always installed to a hot water source, this is so that the heating element doesn't require as much time or energy to heat the water.
The manual may be in correctly printed.

It must be a miss print I have been repairing DW for 15 years...and ALL Dish Washers Require a water source that is 120 Deg or warmer

whether or no longer you have an skill useful equipment you will possibly desire to tie the dishwasher to the warm line. The dish washer has a thermostatic administration and could basically reheat the water to the temperature required.
