the shower in my bedroom has a lever that you can flip up to stop the drain to take a bath. the lever hasn't worked since i moved in and the shower drains really slow. i took the two screws that hold the lever onto to the wall off to see if the rod or cable or whatever had come disconnected and there was nothing attached to it or behind it and i can't feel or see anything down that hole. how can i fix it so i don't have to stand in a pool of water every time i shower?

First of all you need to find out if the bottom of the drain blocker you pulled out is still there. Cylinder like object located at the bottom of the pipe that you removed the two screws should have been attached to a rod attached to the lever. I suggest a mirror and and a flashlight, look down the pipe and see if you can see it. If there it should be at the junction of the drain pipe and the pipe you are looking down. If you see it, get hanger put a small hook at the end and see if you can remove it. If it is not there you need to have the shower snaked out. Because it is not causing the problem.

Get a garden hose, attach a power nozzle, stick it as far as you can down the drain, have someone outside turn it on full blast and the clog should be gone fast. I did it last week. I did it in two places. Down the regular drain on the bottom of the tub and I also removed two screws from that round overflow and stuck the hose down there. And now it drains very fast. Worked perfect.

You can rent a small hand snake from your local rental store. that should clear up the speed of the drain. as for the plug you will have to buy a rubber stopper.
