Maintenance & Repairs - October 2007

I live in an apartment complex where, unfortunately the management couldn't care less about keeping the grounds neat clean, or even safe. I have two GIANT pine trees just outside my apartment, which drop needles and cones year round, and especially getting worse now that the weather is starting to change. Should these needles be removed for safety's sake? Are they a fire hazard when so close to a building, especially when in a huge apartment complex, which is OLD buildings...I feel like this place could go up like a tinder box if even a small fire were to start, and a whole lot of people would be homeless. It is basically a slum atmosphere type place....I hate it, but am on disability, and cannot afford to qualify for anything better at the moment. Do I need to get out there and rake and remove those pine cones and needles myself, since management WILL NOT do it. Don't EVEN suggest asking them to....been there, done that with so many things, and even gone so far as to report to city.

Here is the question I asked yesterday:i have a really bad smell around my washing machine and dryer. Sometimes it smells and sometimes it doesnt. It has been happening for years. It even smelled sometimes when my washer was brand new. It also did it with my old washer. It is the worst it has been. I feel dizzy like it is making me sick. It is a terrible smell. We have pulled the washer out and cant see any mold or wet walls. We washed all the dirty clothes and that cant be it. It is smelling up my entire home. Thanks.
Well we took a look at the drain pipe and there is a trap but there is also a vent pipe leaking sewer gas in the house. My dad says there is a end that lets air in but wont let any out and that will fix it (there was no end on the vent pipe and it doesnt go out the roof it is in my house) my dad called the part a airless vent. I am wondering if it is safe not to have the vent outside and have it inside with one of those pieces on the end. Please help.

It is hard wired to my home's electrical system. It only goes off at night - never in the day. Seems to go off when the heater comes on. A few power outlets in my home also quit working around the same time. But I checked the circuit breaker and none of the circuits are tripped. Any advice?

Okay, this is what happened. I saw a horrible large spider and screamed for my husband to kill it. He went after it with a large wad of paper towels, then flushed it. Then the toilet was unable to be flushed after that, so I tried to plunge it. Next thing I knew, the toilet overflowed! I turned off the water, but every time I start to turn it back on it tries to overflow again. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Please, only serious answers. I'm so aggravated, and I KNOW I shouldn't have allowed the paper towels into the toilet. :-(

.
Is there a heating coil or element that's easily replaced. I'd like to try if it's not too hard. I have a Whirpool low-end model, about 6 years old.

Thanks for your answers!

I have a small basement and a gas furnace. I was thinking it would be easier to start if I keep it indoors. And cleaner and easier to get to.

The radiator is missing a number and my dumb sister lost the instructions a long time ago. I tried to Google it but it just wants to sell me one. It has a shut off timer if that helps.
