Is there a heating coil or element that's easily replaced. I'd like to try if it's not too hard. I have a Whirpool low-end model, about 6 years old.

Thanks for your answers!

Yes, there is a heating element and it's fairly easy to replace. Check the element, it should be very easy to tell if it is bad, it will be cracked and discolored.

yes there is a heating coil, how easy it is to replace depends on the particular model of dryer you have. My best advice is to get your toolkit out, unplug the dryer and start disassembling the machine from the back and see if you can locate where the element is (once you remove the back of the machine it should be still enclosed within another metal housing).

If you start to feel like you won't be able to put the machine back together again if you proceed further then take a break and then reassess the situation. If you still think you cant do it, put it back together and call a service center.

If you can get to the element, then you should be able to order the replacement part from a repair shop or Sears, etc. without much trouble though it may take some time if the part is not in stock.

I presume it's an electric dryer? If so, yes, there is an easily replaceable heating coil if you are mechanically inclined. Figure on $30-50 US for the replacement part; and less than 1 hour to do the work. As others have mentioned, see if you can find a repair manual (typically less than $20) if access to the element isn't obvious.

Partselect.com shows they carry two different elements for Whirlpool.

If no heat. elements burnt out. Not to hard to replace. Happens allot on electric dryers. Try to find a repair manual.

Sounds like the heating element very easy to change. (About $20) It could also be the Thermostat (About 15-20 dollars) another easy fix. Word of advice from experience, it it's the thermostat it will burn the new element you replace. May be best to change both while your at it.

well if the drying is still able to move around in the in side it's OK there but if not you broke the belt around the tub on the inside or you could have burned it up and that means new one and you probably could get on cheap and a second hand store try that if the one you have is not any good because they don't last to long only around 6 or 8 yrs

remove the back cover and on the right is the element

You probably have bad connections or burnt wiring. remove the back and inspect the wiring and check for loose connections.
