Okay, this is what happened. I saw a horrible large spider and screamed for my husband to kill it. He went after it with a large wad of paper towels, then flushed it. Then the toilet was unable to be flushed after that, so I tried to plunge it. Next thing I knew, the toilet overflowed! I turned off the water, but every time I start to turn it back on it tries to overflow again. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Please, only serious answers. I'm so aggravated, and I KNOW I shouldn't have allowed the paper towels into the toilet. :-(

Well, I'm unable to even turn the water on, because it will overflow if I do. My husband left for work soon after this happened, and I've been here alone dealing with it.

Can the toilet be fixed without the water being turned on?

You've got a BAD clog... --Short of suggesting dynamite (which would be a little rough on your plumbing), I'd call a Plumber in the Morning & see what HE suggests... [ Ten to One, I bet he tells you to keep the Paper Towels away from your Husband! :) ]... Good luck!

Don't despair!! Go to your local hardware store and buy a special snake that has a crank on it. Now this is important. With paper towels you want to snag them and pull them back out, not push them forward. The instructions on the snake will show you how to pull things backwards and how to push them through. Push the snake all the way in, give the crank just a couple of turns and then pull the snake slowly and carefully out.

Don't use the plunger anymore. It will do more harm than good.

OK you can try bleach to disolve some of the paper in the toilet or go to walmart and buy a snake in the plumming section (they are about 5 bucks) and snake it. But the problems is you have way too many sheets of paper which are thick compared to toilet paper. You have to push it down or reach in as far as you can and pull it out

Do you have a plunger? make certain it is going around the hollow on the backside of the bowl, at an perspective, so no air escapes. a million to twenty forceful strokes keeping plunger upright and pumping vigorously. that may help. If no longer, there is something talked approximately as a bathroom snake.you only insert it into the hollow and swap the look after till it pushes the clog by using.

If the plunger can't do it you're going to have to pull up the toilet and clear out the clog. If you're lucky the paper towels are stuck in the trap located in the bowl. If not you're going to have to snake out the line.

NEVER try and snake out a toilet, good way to crack the porcelain. Don't use chemicals either.

Try a lot of DRANO- the chemical will eat through the paper
towels and eventually clear the clog.

Plunge, or get a natural bacterial enzyme. See below link.

I think the number one question here is, "Did he get the spider?"
