I have a small basement and a gas furnace. I was thinking it would be easier to start if I keep it indoors. And cleaner and easier to get to.

The other answerers are right. Neither the gas nor the snow blower should be anywhere inside your house, for both the fire and fume (gasoline vapors are carcinogenic) hazards. If you don't have a shed, use a tarp.

If the blower is difficult to start, your gas might be old. Newer synthetic 2-cycle oils have stabilizers that extend the life of your mix, but it does still break down (the oil should tell you how long it will last on the container). If fresh gas mix doesn't help, you might need a tune up.

A little maintenance and a tarp is a lot cheaper than cancer or a fire.

No, no, 1000X - no. Do not store either one indoors. Else you may find yourself living the nightmare of things that go "BOOM" in the night (or just things that go "BOOM!")...

As for your concern of easier starting, if you follow the mfg instructions on starting, you should be OK (different models have differnt features - some have chokes, some have primer bulbs -- so can't give more advice). Make sure to start the season with fresh gas (use fuel stabilizer) mixed at the proper fuel:oil ratio and a new spark plug properly gapped.

Do yourself a favor -- before the winter sets in, take the time to run it now to ensure you can get it started. Familiarize yourself with the controls and starting. It'll also let you know if you have a problem before you find yourself in a bind.

Only a fool would store gas near an open flame.

Please keep the gas can out of your house! Not only will you smell it, it is dangerous. At least keep it in the garage but it would be better if you have a shed, even a little plastic outdoor storage unit would do.

No, do not do it !

Even if you dont have a explosion and fire, you will be introducing some level of fumes from the gas, engine crankase etc.
