Sounds like you are talking about the pilot light. If it is yellow, and not a blue flame with a yellow tip, then you probably need to clean the orifice. to do this, shut off the pilot, let it cool, and then use a can of air to blow into the "flap" on the side which is spriing loaded, as wll as into the pilot flame opening. If this doesn't fix it, you will need to unscrew it from the gas tubing which will require two wrences. There are a few other parts - ignitor probe , etc that you will need to remove - just be sure to pay attention as you remove them so you can reassemble it properly. The other possible reason for a yellow flame is low pressure from the propane tank being nearly empty. If it is a natural gas unit, low pressure is highly unlikely. More questions, email me.
