Be careful, you can get some really bad answers on here so watch it. You don't put Chlorine tablets in a septic tank, you'll destroy the bacteria living in there and make your tank sterile, it won't work.

If you have a traditional septic system with lateral lines then you do not add clorine tablets. However, if you have a spray system septic tank then it will need chlorine tablets. The first tank is where the bacteria is that breaks down the waste. If you were to put the chlorine tablets in there it would destroy the bacteria. However this type of system then moves the water water to a secondary tank where you do need the chlorine tablets to kill bacteria before the waste water is sprayed in your yard. Here is a link to where you can buy them.

BAD BAD BAD UNINFORMED ANSWERS! Sodium Hypocholoride Tablets are Used in Septic systems that have a spray system. Not every system has a Feild Drain line. The systems that the soil is unsutable for Perc tests uses a series of pipes and sprays the disinfected wastewater in an isolated area. Do not use Pool Chlorine Tablets they produce explosive gas that may detonate in the system. They may be purchased at most hardware and feed stores and farm supplies.

You should not put chlorine in your septic- the bacteria in there is essential to break down the sludge you put in there -you should add ridX or some other type product you can ask for at home depot or a hardware store of your choice. If you need clhorine tablets try a pool or hot tub supply store but please don't put them in your septic!!!

If you have an aerobic septic system then you DO need to add chlorine tablets, but DO NOT use pool chlorine.
You need to use calcium hypochlorite type chlorine tablets only.
You can buy them at a Lowe's or similar type store.
Here is a link for the proper chlorine to use for an aerobic system.

If you have a drain field type septic system then you DO NOT want to add chlorine of any type to it.
Even pouring bleach down your drains can be bad for your system if a large amount is disposed of.

Chlorine and septic tanks to not go well together. You shouldn't try to sterilize your septic system. It needs bacteria to breakdown the stuff in it.
That being said, I suppose you could use pool chlorine tablets.

I never heard of putting chlorine tablets in the septic tank. Doing that will kill the bacteria that causes the bio-degradable break down of the contents of your septic causing it to get full faster and possibly over flow. You should be adding yeast or something else like it to the septic.
