Our central AC stopped cooling; air was forced into the house, but not cold air. A humming, vibrating noise came intermittently from the unit--like it was trying to work but just couldn't.
I called a local HVAC company. The person came and checked the refrigerant levels and the filter, which were fine. He said the capacitor was bad and replaced it.
Tonight I put the AC on for about an hour. Although the air felt cool (not cold), the temperature change was only one degree after more than one hour (from 81 degrees to 80 degrees). At that point, I turned it off because it had gotten cooler outside than it was inside.
Any idea what might be going on? I'll probably need to call the company over again on Monday.
Thanks for any clues.
