Before you call a repair man try this. Move the refridgerator away from the wall. If you have a shop vac, blow air into the evaporator coil. (looks like a little car radiator.) If the coil is covered with dust it will not cool the freon and the fridge won't work. If you don't have a shop vac use a vacumn to clean off the dust. An old paint brush used while vacumning will help loosen the dust.
If that doesn't work, you probally are low on freon due to a leak, or you have a compressor problem. If the unit is very old, you may be be better off replacing it.

I have heard a fan hitting the ice on the evaporator coil.
All the suggestions are good. The best advice is turn it off for a few hours with the door open. You might want to throw a few towels on the floor or at least watch for water coming out.
Water coming out is a good thing.Turn it back on but be carefull not to set the t-stat tooo low. If the defrost system isn't working then it will freeze over again.

Freezers are funny. Make sure the setting for your freezer is not at its highest setting. My freezer went through a period of being "on" but not cooling because it was set too high. I ended up freezing cooling line from the refrigerant pump in the back of my fridge. That may be the clicking noise you hear. You may need to defrost your freezer for a few hours and then restart it.

possibly stuck in defrost mode? possible pump tiring to start but going into over load. there is a defrost timer that can be inspected to see if it is still running and advanced out of defrost mode and into run. This is a difficult diagnosis with out actual hearing clicking. good luck!

The clicking is probably the relay for switching the compressor motor on. That isn't happening anymore. ~
Your thermostat may have gone bad. Replacing the thermo couple may fix that.
