my ac unit is to small for the place im renting, what do i do?

Question

my ac unit is to small for the place i rent and the landlord is cheap.
will a dehumidifier help me?
what can i do?
i had him check the freon and he says it took a lil and is ok. it feels a little cooler.
i changed my filters and cleaned the coils.
i keep my white blinds closed.
i have thermopane windows.
please help
also this place has no ceiling fans or even a hook up for them . i would have to ask him or do it my self

Get a more powerfull AC then. You should use 12,000 btu's for every 400 square feet of space to cool.

Is this a whole home A/C unit, or just a small window/wall mount? How did your LL check the freon level? If the unit is running, the temperature drop from the air coming out should be around 20* cooler than the air going in. If it is not, the unit is not tuned properly. If the air is around 20* cooler and the space is not being cooled, the unit is undersized. A properly sized unit should bring the temperature down 1* every 8-12 minutes. Not knowing your location, I can't be exact, but most property managers only have to supply heat, not cooling. Your only other option may be to get a window unit yourself, or find another apartment that has cooling.
A de-humidifier will remove the moisture in the air and help your body give off perspiration, which is what makes us feel cooler. If you live in a dry climate, you could also wear a damp cotton T-shirt. As the water evaporates, it will feel cooler.

get a pair of cheap pedestal fans to move what little cold air you have around. If you're able to get another window unit for cheap, grab it up. Some apartments in complexes have 2 in them. My buddy had one in his living room and a blanked-off sleeve in the bedroom. A lot of cheap landlords take out the second on to cut down on the electric bill.

A dehumidifier just makes the air dry, it doesnt cool.
By the way, if your AC took a little refrigerant, you have a leak!!! Tell your shifty cheap landlord to fik the leak instead of topping it off from time to time. If he is EPA certified to do this work, he knows its a huge fine for doing that. If he's not certified, he shouldn't be messing with it.
If you really want to press the issue, check your local renter's laws. Some states specify that landlords are supposed to provide adequate cooling during summer months. Anything else, feel free to ask me.
