It sounds like you need freon put in. We had to do that for about 5 years, then finally broke down and bought a new AC. But boy that freon can cost a lot. Our local AC guy filled our old one with freon, but always gave us a huge discount or he would report that he put less in, then he really did. It would help you to find someone like that, or just buy a new AC.

The breaker tripped for a reason. You will have to have a trained technician look at the unit. Unfortunately it looks like it will be a long hot weekend for you...can you go to the mountains, the pool or beach? If you have to stay home, you can cool your body by wearing a cotton T-shirt soaked in water and having a fan blowing. The evaporation of the water will draw the heat from your body.

you most likely need to have your unit leak checked and recharged. Once that is done i would thoroughly clean out your evaporator and pan. That should take care of the stink. Remeber to change the filters too. Until the unit can be repaired, see if you can't get a window unit second-hand.

If i was closer to you, i would help you out-i hate seeing someone suffering in the heat.

It could be anything - from the wrong functions on the remote control, loss of freon gas due to a leak or the whole unit, i.e. condenser and blower is kaput. Except for the probable wrong function on the remote control, the other likely causes have to be attended by a qualified person.
