My garbage disposal doesn't work. I don't think it even whirrs. It just sits there. I don't think anything is stuck in it -- I've put my hand down the drain a million times and felt around.

I had a landlord once that came and flicked a switch on my old disposal and boom! Fixed! I don't see a "reset button" on my garbage disposal. If there isn't one, how do I "reset" it?

If the reset option doesn't work, I'll call the landlord -- I'm not gonna try to take it apart or anything. But I'm smuggling a cat, so I'd rather try to fix it myself if it is easy?

I have a large bean going through the middle of my basement ceiling. It is a 10 x 10 or 12 x 12, I don't remember exactly. It is supported in the middle by a column that is 10 x 10, and of course on each outside wall. I would like to make a wall along the bean and put in a door, but the beam is a little too low for a standard door frame. I was thinking if I supported the beam on each side of the door frame with another 10 x 10 column, then it would be okay to notch out the beam so that it would allow for a full sized door. Can anyone help me with the codes or regulations regarding this? Or does anyone know where I can get code information?

FYI: I live in Washington State

I need suggestions on what to do on a leak from a drain pipe. Whenever anyone from top washroom uses either the washroom or faucet a steady stream of water can be seen running along the main drain pipe. The thing is this pipe runs within the drywall for first two levels and only comes out at the basement, this is where i observed the stream of water running along the pipe, the pipe then goes underground to meet with the main drainage system of the house. Is these any product that i can patch out the hole from within, like those tablets you put when you got a hole in your car radiator pipe. Thanks.

I got this Handyman Club of America, membership request. With the membership you get tons of free stuff just for giving a review on how it works. And the membership is only one dollar a month.
Does anyone know anything about this? Is it fake?

Why is it that under warranty/insurance, a part never needs to be fixed when the repairman shows up? You practically have to be the squeaky wheel to get any work done. Where as, when you contract the repairman outside insurance, any concern, and immediately, the part is replaced? Thank you very much...
Hmmmm

My deck needs washing and staining. I am going to use my father-in-law's power washer. What are the steps involved? I am assuming that I power wash it, wait for it to completely dry, then stain it? Are the other steps involved? Also, for staining, how do you get into the hard to reach cracks and creveses? I have heard of some people using a floppy mop, has anyone ever tried this technique? All info regarding this process is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I am remodeling my bathroom and when I torn out the old tile i saw a severely damaged subfloor. It's not wet but had been. The rot is all around the toilet and bathtub areas and at some points goes underneath the non structural walls between rooms. I know I should cut out the bad areas and start over but what do i do about the areas of subfloor that are rotted underneath the walls? These walls are resting on joists that do not appear to be damaged, but the subfloor is soft and flaking apart. Can i suport the joist with sisters and place a new sub floor or do i need to tear down the walls and go back to a point on an adjacent joist, replace the subfloor and rebuild the walls?

I live in an 1850's building with a fireplace in the basement and first floor. I am using the one in the basement. Usually it is working fine, but when I stir it, or if I put another log on it, the smoke stops going up the flu and billows out into my apartment, filling it with smoke. This goes on for about 15 to 20 minutes until it corrects itself. Why does it do this? It is like the flu is closed, but it is clearly not, I have looked up in and I can see that it is fine. How do I stop this from happening?

Dishwasher does not clean dishes well. It seems like it doesn't get enough water or pressure in the upper tray.

I have on and off vibrating and humming sound coming from the water pipes in my bathroom. The noise stops whenever we turn on the faucet in the bathroom sink. We can also hear the sound coming from behind the refridgerator in the kitchen. My refridgerator is the kind that dispenses water. How can we stop the noise? By the way, we did have a loose toilet in that bathroom which was fixed not so long ago. And my house is only 6 yrs. old.

My disposal wasn't turning, so I unplugged it, did the broom handle trick to free the blades, then (and I think this is where I f'ed up...) I hit the reset button before I plugged it in. So, when I plugged it in, it started running, but won't stop unless I unplug it. Do I need to somehow get the reset button popped out, or what?!?!

My daughter flushed an easter egg down the toilet. My son did the same thing when he was a kid, so I was prepared. I had to remove the toilet from the floor to snake the toy out, but got it out. I replaced the wax ring, since there wasn't much of one left.
Here's my problem. What I've seen before are two screws that come out of the ground, you put the bowl on the screws, and tighten. This toilet has two screws, but they come out of a round black piece that is screwed to the ground. It looks like you have to put the toilet on at an angle, and then twist about an eighth of a turn so the screws lock in a bit, then tighten. After about an hour I can get one to engage, but not the other. Is there an easier way to do this that I'm not figuring out?
I hope somebody knows what I'm talking about, I don't know if I made ANY sense. Thank you!!!
