Squeaky floors are when there is a gap between the floorboards and the subflooring. The nails that hold them down are loose. Tongue and groove are nailed at a 45 degree angle inside the tongue. You have two options. Locate the joists and use a chalk line to mark their position and then using flooring nails tack the floorboards down around the squeak. 2nd option if you have access from below. Place a bracer board between the joists and screw it into place below the squeaky area. I suppose you could also inject some high strength wood glue into the joints if you have access. Hope this helps.

I use 3" finishing nails. Just walk around the floor until you find the squeak, locate the Joice by tapping on the floor with your hammer, & drive the nail. You can drive these through the carpet with out damaging it.

Good luck.

Spray the joints with WD-40. I had a house once that squeeked like crazy in places and after I sprayed the joints in the floor, I never heard another squeek

I like the WD-40 answer. I've used wax in the joints before because it doesn't penetrate the wood or discolor it.

I have heard that if you sprinkly talcum powder in the cracks (in the tounge and groove) it will help. This might make your floor slippery so I'd damp mop afterwards. Hope this helps!
